Levomac 250 MG Tablet is an antibiotic medicine that contains Levofloxacin. It is used for the treatment of bacterial infections affecting the lungs, skin and urinary tract (kidneys, bladder, ureters, or urethra). Levomac 250 MG Tablet is effective against a large number of bacteria. It cures the infection by killing or stopping the growth of bacteria. It is not effective against infections caused by viruses.

Levomac 250 MG Tablet can cause side effects like diarrhoea, stomach pain, headache, weakness, nausea, and vomiting. Levomac 250 MG Tablet can cause muscle damage, usually in your ankle.

Levomac 250 MG Tablet can be taken with or without food around the same time every day. Once you start treatment with Levomac 250 MG Tablet, it is recommended to finish the entire course to prevent the development of bacterial resistance.

Levomac 250 MG Tablet should be avoided during pregnancy due to the risk of severe side effects on the joints of the developing foetus. Consult your doctor before using Levomac 250 MG Tablet if you are breastfeeding. Avoid using Levomac 250 MG Tablet if you have kidney, liver problems as it can worsen your condition.

Levomac 250 MG Tablet may cause dizziness or sleepiness and alter your eyesight. Hence, do not drive vehicles or do anything that requires your alertness after taking this tablet. Avoid taking antacids or dairy products like milk or curd for at least two hours before and after taking Levomac 250 MG Tablet as it may interact with them.

Skin and soft tissue infections occur when the bacteria invade the skin and its supporting structures. Levomac 250 MG Tablet is used to treat all skin infections including abscesses caused by bacteria.
Respiratory tract infections
Respiratory tract infections caused by bacteria may show the symptoms like swelling inside your nose, airways, obstruction of airways and difficulty in breathing. Levomac 250 MG Tablet is used to treat respiratory tract infections like bronchitis, community-acquired pneumonia etc., caused by bacteria.
Inhalation Anthrax

When not to use?

Allergy
Avoid taking Levomac 250 MG Tablet if you are allergic to it. Serious allergic reactions to this medicine are rare. However, seek immediate medical attention if you notice any symptoms like skin rash, itching/swelling (especially of the face/tongue/throat), severe dizziness, breathing difficulties, etc.
Tendinitis or tendon rupture
Levomac 250 MG Tablet can cause muscle damage, especially in old age. Do not use Levomac 250 MG Tablet if you have tendon problems (a tissue that connects bone with muscles).
Myasthenia gravis
Myasthenia gravis is a skeletal muscle weakness disorder characterized by severe weakness of any of the muscles of your arms and legs. Levomac 250 MG Tablet should be avoided if you have Myasthenia gravis as it may worsen your condition.

Pregnancy
Levomac 250 MG Tablet should be avoided during pregnancy due to the risk of severe side effects on joints of developing foetus. Your doctor may prescribe this medicine only if necessary.
Breast-feeding
Levomac 250 MG Tablet may pass into breast milk in small amounts and may harm your infant. Hence it is acceptable for use in breastfeeding only upon your doctor’s recommendation. The baby should be observed for symptoms of yeast infection such as a thick, white coating on the tongue, diarrhoea and diaper rash.
General warnings
Muscle damage
Levomac 250 MG Tablet can cause muscle damage usually in tendons that surround the ankle. Inform your doctor if you feel pain, numbness, or tingling sensation in your muscles.
Antibiotic resistance
Finish the entire course of treatment with Levomac 250 MG Tablet, even if your condition gets better to avoid antibiotic resistance (a condition where microbes evolve mechanisms that protect them from the effects of antibiotics). If you still feel unwell after completing your antibiotic course, consult your doctor.
Photosensitivity
Levomac 250 MG Tablet may make you more sensitive to sunlight. Use sunscreens or wear protective clothing before stepping outside to avoid undesirable reactions while on treatment with this medicine.
Driving or operating machinery
Levomac 250 MG Tablet may cause dizziness or sleepiness and interfere with eyesight. Avoid any activity that requires concentration like driving vehicles or operating machines after taking this medicine.
Diarrhoea
Levomac 250 MG Tablet can cause diarrhoea. Get emergency medical help if you experience severe diarrhoea that is watery or bloody. Consult your pharmacist/doctor before taking anti-diarrhoeal medication.
Antacids
If you are taking an antacid containing aluminium and magnesium salts for indigestion, it can increase the time it takes for Levomac 250 MG Tablet to act on your body. Hence, it is recommended to take this antibiotic at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after taking antacids.
Dairy products
Dairy products like milk and curd may interfere with the absorption of Levomac 250 MG Tablet. Hence, avoid taking dairy products 2 hours before and after taking this medicine.

Dosage

Missed Dose
Try not to skip a dose of Levomac 250 MG Tablet. If you skip a dose, do not add it up to the next dose to make up for the missed one.
Overdose
Never take more than the prescribed dose. Seek emergency medical attention if you suspect that you might have taken an overdose of Levomac 250 MG Tablet.

Levomac 250 MG Tablet is proven to be highly effective in treating bacterial infections. Take Levomac 250 MG Tablet with food as instructed by your doctor. Never take more than the prescribed dose. Take this tablet at around the same time daily.
