Description

Isonorm 10 MG Tablet is an effective medicine to prevent chest pain (angina) caused due to narrowing of blood vessels that carries blood to the heart. It also decreases the load on the heart ensuring effective pumping of blood.

Uses of Isonorm 10 MG Tablet

What is it prescribed for?
Angina Pectoris Prophylaxis
This medicine is used for the prevention of angina (chest pain) caused due to reduced flow of blood and oxygen to the heart. It is not effective in treating chest pain that has already set in.

When not to use?

Allergy
This medicine is not recommended for use if you have a known history of allergy to Isosorbide-5-mononitrate or any nitrate-containing medicines.
Anemia
This medicine is not recommended for use if you have anemia or low levels of hemoglobin in the blood.
Obstructive heart disease
This medicine is not recommended for use if you have a condition where the blood vessels in the heart have blockage due to swelling or narrowing.
Head trauma/ Increased intracranial pressure
This medicine is not recommended for use in patients having a severe head injury or the pressure in the brain is elevated.
Medicine for erectile dysfunction
This medicine is not recommended for use if you are taking medicines for the treatment of erectile dysfunction. One of the most commonly used medicines for this condition is Viagra (sildenafil),

Warnings

Warnings for special population
Pregnancy
This medicine is not recommended for use by pregnant women unless absolutely necessary and the benefits outweigh the risks involved. Consult your doctor before using this medicine if you are pregnant or planning a pregnancy in near future.
Breast-feeding
This medicine is not recommended for use by women who are breastfeeding. Your doctor may prescribe an alternate medicine or ask you to stop breastfeeding if the medicine has to be used.
General warnings
Other diseases
Report the incidence of all other diseases of the heart, lung, thyroid, kidney, liver etc to the doctor before receiving this medicine. All these conditions should be taken into consideration to ensure safe and effective use of this medicine.
Fall in blood pressure
Use of this medicine can cause a fall in blood pressure in general and may make you feel dizzy especially while getting up from lying or sitting position (Postural hypotension).
Drowsiness
Use of this medicine can cause drowsiness and affect the ability to drive or operate heavy machinery. Refrain from performing tasks that require a high level of mental alertness after taking this medicine.
Withdrawal symptoms
Use of this medicine should not be stopped abruptly as the patient is likely to experience some discomfort.
Nitrate free interval
The likelihood of development of drug tolerance is very high if this medicine is taken very regularly. A minimal amount of nitrate free time is required to avoid tolerance is 10-12 hr/day. The tolerance developed is in general for nitrates and may affect other medicines containing nitrates (cross-tolerance).
Recurring headaches
Use of this medicine may cause recurring headaches in some patients. These headaches can be treated using paracetamol or aspirin.
Blurred vision
Use of this medicine has been associated with a blurring of vision in some rare cases. Discontinue the use and contact your doctor at the first sign of an abnormality in vision.
Pediatric use
This medicine is not recommended for use in patients aged below 18 years.

Dosage

Missed Dose
Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. Skip the missed dose if it is almost time for the next scheduled dose.
Overdose
Contact your doctor immediately if an overdose with this medicine is suspected. Symptoms of an overdose may include a severe headache, fever, nausea, vomiting, difficulty in breathing, excessive sweating etc.

General Instructions

Take Isonorm 10 MG Tablet as instructed by the doctor. Do not take in larger or smaller quantities than prescribed. Do not discontinue the use of this medicine abruptly. There should be sufficient time gap between two dosages.
