Glipon 20 Tablet is an antidiabetic medicine used alone or in combination with other medicines to treat type 2 diabetes (a condition that results in high blood sugar) in adults. It works by increasing the activity of hormones that maintain your blood sugar levels before or after a meal. It also increases insulin levels which helps to lower the sugar levels in your blood.

Glipon 20 Tablet shows side effects like low blood glucose levels, and you may feel hungry, irritable, confused, anxious or shaky. Consult your doctor if these symptoms remain for a long time or if they become severe.

Glipon 20 Tablet should be taken exactly as advised by your doctor. Take it at the same time every day to maintain a constant level of this medicine in your body. Do not skip doses or discontinue treatment as it may cause an increase in your blood sugar levels.

Glipon 20 Tablet is not recommended if you are allergic to it. Glipon 20 Tablet may interact with other medicines, so inform your doctor if you take any medicines and/or supplements. Type II Diabetes Mellitus
Type 2 diabetes is a condition that affects the way the body processes blood sugar (glucose). With type 2 diabetes, the body either does not produce enough insulin or resists insulin. Glipon 20 Tablet reduces blood sugar levels in people with type II diabetes mellitus along with an appropriate diet and exercise regimen.

When not to use?

Allergy
Avoid taking Glipon 20 Tablet if you are allergic to it. Seek immediate medical attention if you notice any symptoms of allergic reactions such as skin rash, itching/swelling (especially of your face/tongue/throat), severe dizziness, breathing difficulty, etc.
Diabetic ketoacidosis
Diabetic ketoacidosis is a complication of diabetes that occurs when your body produces high levels of acids called ketones in the blood. It can be triggered by infection or other illnesses. Symptoms include thirst, frequent urination, nausea, abdominal pain, weakness, and confusion. Glipon 20 Tablet is not recommended if you have a history of diabetic ketoacidosis due to the increased risk of worsening your condition.
Type 1 Diabetes mellitus
Type 1 diabetes, also known as juvenile diabetes or insulin-dependent diabetes, is a condition in which the pancreas produces little or no insulin. Symptoms include increased thirst, frequent urination, hunger, fatigue, and blurred vision. Glipon 20 Tablet is not recommended if you have type 1 diabetes mellitus.

Warnings

Warnings for special population
Pregnancy
Glipon 20 Tablet should be used during pregnancy only if necessary. The risk to the developing foetus is not known. Consult your doctor if you are pregnant before taking this medication.
Breast-feeding
Glipon 20 Tablet may pass into breastmilk. Hence it is not recommended while breastfeeding. Consult your doctor if you are breastfeeding before taking this medication.
General warnings
QT Prolongation
QT Prolongation is a condition of an irregular heartbeat. Glipon 20 Tablet should be used with caution if you have a pre-existing heart problem due to the increased risk of worsening your condition.
Severe liver disease
If you have any pre-existing liver problem, Glipon 20 Tablet should be used with caution as it may increase your risk of liver damage. Close monitoring of liver function tests is recommended.
Hypoglycaemia
Glipon 20 Tablet may cause hypoglycaemia (low blood sugar levels). This risk is especially higher if you are taking other oral anti-diabetic medications along with this medicine. Close monitoring of your blood sugar levels is recommended. It is recommended to carry a sugar candy to counteract the effects of low blood sugar levels.
Alcohol use
Excessive alcohol intake while on treatment with Glipon 20 Tablet may cause a severe drop in blood sugar levels. Hence alcohol consumption should be avoided.
Driving or operating machinery
Glipon 20 Tablet may cause low blood sugar levels which may affect your mental alertness. If you experience such symptoms, avoid driving vehicles or operating machines.

Dosage

Missed Dose
Try not to skip a dose of Glipon 20 Tablet. Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed one. Do not double the dose to compensate for a missed one.
Overdose
Do not take excess dose than prescribed by your doctor. Consult your doctor if you suspect an overdose with Glipon 20 Tablet.

General Instructions

Take Glipon 20 Tablet with or without food. Avoid taking more than the prescribed dose as it may increase the risk of side effects.

Avoid the discontinuation of Glipon 20 Tablet without consulting your doctor.

Your doctor may suggest regular monitoring of your blood sugar levels to check that your diabetes is under control.
