GLICONIL M TAB (GLIBENCLAMIDE 5MG / METFORMIN 500MG)

GLICONIL M TABLET belongs to the group of medications called ‘antidiabetic agents’ used in the treatment of Type 2 diabetes mellitus. Type 2 diabetes mellitus is a chronic condition in which blood sugar or glucose levels rise. It occurs when the body does not produce enough insulin (metabolizes glucose) or if produced, it cannot function properly in the body.

GLICONIL M TABLET contains two medicines, namely: Metformin and Glibenclamide. Metformin acts by decreasing liver glucose production and intestinal glucose uptake. Glibenclamide increases the production of insulin by acting on the pancreas. GLICONIL M TABLET is not recommended for the treatment of type 1 diabetes.

GLICONIL M TABLET is available in oral tablet dosage form. Tablets are swallowed with a whole glass of water. You should not crush, break or chew the tablets. It is advised to take tablets with food in the morning. You may experience side-effects of such as nausea (feeling sick), vomiting (falling sick), diarrhoea, stomach ache and loss of appetite. It may cause vision problems. Some patients experience decline in blood sugar levels lower than normal (hypoglycemia) resulting in sweating, dizziness, headache, confusion, feeling hungry, temporary changes in vision, uneasiness, irritability and weakness. In such cases, seek medical attention immediately.

Do not take GLICONIL M TABLET if you are allergic to any of its contents. Before taking GLICONIL M TABLET, inform your doctor if you are taking other medicines that include prescription or non-prescription medicines, nutritional supplements or herbal products. Do not stop this medication abruptly, even if you feel better. GLICONIL M TABLET may cause ‘lactic acidosis’ (accumulation of lactic acid in the blood), which requires immediate medical attention. The risk increases if you are previously diagnosed with kidney or liver diseases. Do not consume alcohol (risk of lactic acidosis) or fast for prolonged periods (risk of hypoglycemia). Also, inform your doctor if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant or breastfeeding.

Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus

Together GLICONIL M TABLET decreases the elevated blood sugar level after the meal along with the recommended diet and exercise.

GLICONIL M TABLET is available as oral tablets. Tablets are swallowed as a whole with a glass of water. Do not crush, chew or break the tablets. Take the dose as prescribed by your doctor at a fixed time every day. It is recommended to take GLICONIL M TABLET with food to prevent hypoglycemia.

Store in a cool and dry place away from sunlight
