Description

Foracort Forte Inhaler is a combination medicine used to relieve symptoms such as wheezing, shortness of breath, chest tightness, breathing difficulties, coughing, etc. caused by asthma. This medicine is used only for the maintenance treatment of asthma and is not useful for treating an acute attack.

What is it prescribed for?
Asthma
This medicine is used in the maintenance treatment of asthma. It is helpful in preventing and treating symptoms such as breathing difficulties, wheezing, shortness of breath, etc.
Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease
This medicine is used to prevent and treat symptoms such as breathing difficulties, wheezing, shortness of breath, chest tightness, etc. associated with a chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). It is especially helpful in patients experiencing frequent symptoms and suffering from frequent exacerbations of COPD.

When not to use?

Allergy
This medicine is not recommended for use in patients with a known allergy to formoterol, budesonide, or any other inactive ingredients present along with the formulation.
Status asthmaticus
This medicine is not recommended for use in patients suffering from status asthmaticus (a severe, acute asthma attack) as a first-line therapy since it is not effective in treating this condition.

Pregnancy

General warnings

Thyrotoxicosis or hyperthyroidism
This medicine should be used with caution in patients with a known history of thyrotoxicosis or hyperthyroidism due to the increased risk of worsening of the patient’s condition. You may require a dose adjustment and more frequent clinical monitoring to safely use this medicine. Replacement with a suitable alternative may be necessary in some cases based on the clinical condition.
Hypokalemia
This medicine should be used with caution in patients with a known history of hypokalemia (low blood potassium levels) due to the increased risk of worsening of the patient’s condition. Close monitoring of potassium levels, appropriate corrective measures, dose adjustments, or replacement with a suitable alternative may be necessary in some cases based on the clinical condition of the patient.
Seizure disorders
This medicine should be used with extreme caution in patients with a known history of seizures due to the increased risk of worsening of the patient’s condition. Report any unusual symptoms to the doctor immediately. Appropriate dose adjustments or replacement with a suitable alternative may be required based on the clinical condition.
Use in children
This medicine is not recommended for use in patients less than 12 years of age. The safety and efficacy of use are not fully studied in children above 12 years of age. However, your doctor may prescribe this medicine if the benefits significantly outweigh the risks. In such a case, the patient should be monitored closely for any adverse effects.
Infections
This medicine will decrease the immune response of the body and increase the risk of infections. This risk is especially higher in patients susceptible to infections. Appropriate patient/caregiver education, close monitoring of the clinical condition, dose adjustments, or replacement with a suitable alternative may be necessary based on the clinical condition of the patient.
Diabetes
This medicine should be used with caution in patients suffering from diabetes due to the increased risk of elevated blood glucose levels. Close monitoring of blood glucose levels is recommended for such patients. Report any unusual symptoms such as increased thirst, headache, tiredness or weakness, etc. to the doctor immediately. Appropriate dose adjustments or replacement with a suitable alternative may be necessary based on the clinical condition of the patient.
Decreased bone density
This medicine may decrease bone density by decreasing the absorption of calcium. Hence, it should be used with extreme caution in patients susceptible to bone injuries. Close monitoring of the clinical condition, appropriate corrective measures, dose adjustments, or replacement with a suitable alternative may be necessary based on the clinical condition of the patient.

Dosage

Missed Dose
The missed dose should be inhaled as soon as possible. It is advisable to skip the missed dose if it is already time for your next scheduled dose. Do not use extra medicine to make up for the missed dose.
Overdose
Seek emergency medical treatment or contact the doctor in case of an overdose.

General Instructions

Use this medicine exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Follow all the instructions given in the information leaflet/package insert. Do not use in larger or smaller amounts than advised/prescribed.
