Ecosprin AV 150/20 Capsule 10’s is a combination drug of blood thinning agents and cholesterol lowering agents, primarily taken for the prevention of heart attack and stroke. It also lowers the raised level of bad cholesterol (especially who are at high risk of heart diseases). A heart attack generally refers to blocked flow of blood to the heart due to the blockage of arteries. The blockage is most often a build-up of fat, cholesterol and other substances, which form a plaque in the arteries that feed the heart (coronary arteries).

Ecosprin AV 150/20 Capsule 10’s is composed of two medicines namely: Atorvastatin and Aspirin. Atorvastatin is a lipid-lowering medication which blocks the enzyme required to make cholesterol in the body. It reduces the bad cholesterol (also known as low-density lipoproteins or LDL), triglycerides (TG) and increases the levels of good cholesterol (also known as high-density lipoproteins or HDL). Aspirin is a blood thinners or anti platelet (anticoagulant) that collectively prevents the formation of clot in the blood vessels. Together Ecosprin AV 150/20 Capsule 10’s help to reduce the risk of heart attack, stroke, and heart-related chest pain (angina). Additionally it is also given to the patients who had recent heart by pass surgery (CABG) to have control on the level of cholesterol and prevent blood clot.

You can take Ecosprin AV 150/20 Capsule 10’s with food or without food. It should be swallowed whole with a glass of water. Do not chew, bite, or break it. Your doctor will advise you how often you take your tablets based on your medical condition. In some cases, you may experience headaches, ankle swelling (edema), dark urine, muscle weakness, slow heart rate, and nausea. Ecosprin AV 150/20 Capsule 10’s is known to cause dizziness, so driving should be avoided. Most of these side effects of Ecosprin AV 150/20 Capsule 10’s do not require medical attention and gradually resolve over time. However, if the side effects are persistent, reach out to your doctor.

Try not to stop taking this medicine of your own. Stopping Ecosprin AV 150/20 Capsule 10’s abruptly may worse your condition and increase your risk of future heart attack. Let your doctor know if are sensitive to atorvastatin, or aspirin, have any active liver disease, active bleeding issues (like peptic ulcer, brain hemorrhage), muscle problem (myopathy, rhabdomyolysis), pregnant or planning to become pregnant or breastfeeding. Patient should inform the doctor that they are taking Ecosprin AV 150/20 Capsule 10’s before any surgery is scheduled or any new medicine is taken. Atorvastatin present in Ecosprin AV 150/20 Capsule 10’s is a pregnancy category X drug so it is contraindicated in pregnant women. As it may cause harm to fetus if administered to a pregnant women. Inform your doctor that you are taking Ecosprin AV 150/20 Capsule 10’s if you are going to have any surgery.

Store in a cool and dry place away from sunlight

Like other medicines Ecosprin AV 150/20 Capsule 10’s too have some side effects. However, these side effects are temporary and resolve after some times. Most common side effects of Ecosprin AV 150/20 Capsule 10’s are bleeding (stomach bleeding, gastrointestinal bleeding, nose bleeding), rash, diarrhoea, stomach ulcer, muscle disease (like myopathy, rhabdomyolysis), and abdominal pain. In rare cases, it can cause bruising (an injury transmitted through unbroken skin to underlying tissue causing rupture of small blood vessels and escape of blood into the tissue with resulting discoloration).
