Clindac A Solution (Clindamycin Phosphate 1%)

INTRODUCTION

CLINDAC A contains Clindamycin which belongs to the group of medicines called Topical antibiotics. It is indicated in the topical treatment of acne vulgaris. Acne vulgaris is a common skin condition that occurs in teens, when hair follicles of the skin plug with oil and dead skin cells. Symptoms includes inflammation, large, reddish pus-filled pimples and formation of comedones.

Clindamycin deeply penetrates into the skin and kills the pimple-causing bacteria by inhibiting the bacterial protein synthesis. It is for external use only. Apply a thin layer of this medicine on the affected area as required. Topical application of clindamycin may also result in systemic absorption and can cause diarrhea, bloody diarrhea or colitis (including pseudomembranous colitis) in patients. In such cases, contact your doctor immediately.

The most common side effects of this medicine are application site reactions such as itching, burning, peeling of skin, dryness or seborrhoea. Do not touch, rub or scratch the affected area. Regularly use moisturizers to soothe and hydrate the affected area. If it does not get better, contact your doctor. Before applying this medicine, inform your doctor if you have or ever had any GI disorders. CLINDAC A should be used with caution in pregnant or breastfeeding women. Consult your doctor before application.

HOW CLINDAC A WORKS

Topically applied clindamycin penetrates deep into the skin and kills the acne-producing bacteria by inhibiting the bacterial protein synthesis. It acts by reversibly binding to the 50S ribosomal subunits of the bacteria, which prevents peptide bond formation thus inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis. Inhibition of protein synthesis stops the growth of acne-producing bacteria leading to prevention of acne outbreaks.

DIRECTIONS FOR USE

Apply this medicine as directed by your physician. It is for external use only. Shake well before use. Wash the affected area before application. Apply a thin film of the medicine to the affected skin surface once or twice daily. Replace the cap tightly after use. Wash your hands thoroughly after application. Avoid contact of this medicine with eyes, ears, nose or mouth. If this happens, rinse it thoroughly with plenty of cool water. Continue to apply this medicine, as long as your doctor tells you to do so, to obtain better results.

Severe persistent diarrhea with or without stomach pain or fever

Seborrhoea (disease of sebaceous glands resulting in an oily coating and scales on the skin)

HOW TO MANAGE SIDE EFFECTS

Skin irritation or dryness:

Avoid hot showers because hot water can irritate the skin. Do not rub or scratch the affected area. Use sunscreen and protective clothing when outdoors. Regularly use moisturizers to soothe and hydrate the affected area. If it does not get better, speak to your doctor.
