Cefoprox 100DT Tablet

Cefoprox 100 MG Tablet DT is an antibiotic medicine that contains cefpodoxime. It is used to treat bacterial infections of the lungs, nose, throat, ears, skin, bladder, etc. It kills the bacteria, thereby stops the infection from spreading. Cefoprox 100 MG Tablet DT is not effective against infections caused by viruses. Your doctor may advise this medicine alone or in combination with other medications to treat bacterial infections.

Cefoprox 100 MG Tablet DT has side effects like diarrhoea, stomach pain, headache, weakness, nausea, and vomiting. Consult your doctor if any side effects are seen for a longer period. Do not take this medicine if you are previously allergic to it. Cefoprox 100 MG Tablet DT is not recommended for use in children below 12 years of age.

Cefoprox 100 MG Tablet DT can be taken with food for better absorption. The dose of the tablet will be decided by your doctor based on the severity of your infection. For the ease of remembering, take it at the same time every day. Once the antibiotic is started, ensure that the entire course of treatment is completed. Avoid unnecessary use of Cefoprox 100 MG Tablet DT as excessive use may cause the bacteria to become resistant to antibiotics.

Cefoprox 100 MG Tablet DT effects may be delayed when taken with medications that reduce the production of stomach acids like antacids, proton pump inhibitors or H2 blockers. Therefore, take Cefoprox 100 MG Tablet DT at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after taking antacids. Consult your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, before using Cefoprox 100 MG Tablet DT.

What is it prescribed for?
Bronchitis
Bronchitis is the swelling and irritation of bronchial tubes that regulates air passage in the lungs. Cefoprox 100 MG Tablet DT is used to treat bronchitis caused by bacteria. It is also used to treat a sudden worsening of chronic bronchitis (a long-lasting form of bronchitis) and subsequent episodes of bronchitis.
Cystitis
Cystitis is the swelling of the urinary bladder usually caused by a bacterial infection. This is more common in women. Cefoprox 100 MG Tablet DT is used to treat cystitis caused by bacteria.
Gonorrhoea
Gonorrhoea is a sexually transmitted infection (STI) caused by Neisseria gonorrhoea bacteria that infects both men and women. It spreads during vaginal, oral or anal sex without using a condom or other barrier method. Cefoprox 100 MG Tablet DT is used to treat gonorrhoea.
Community-Acquired Pneumonia

Pharyngitis/Tonsilitis
Pharyngitis and tonsillitis are infections that cause swelling and soreness in the throat and tonsils. If it is the infection affects both the throat and the tonsils, then it would be called pharyngotonsillitis. Cefoprox 100 MG Tablet DT is used to treat pharyngitis, tonsillitis, and/or pharyngotonsillitis.
Skin and soft tissue infections
Skin and soft tissue infections occur when the bacteria invade the skin and its supporting structures. Cefoprox 100 MG Tablet DT is used to treat all skin infections including abscess caused by bacteria.
Pyelonephritis
Pyelonephritis is the swelling of the kidneys due to bacterial infection. This infection starts in your urethra or bladder and spreads through the ureters to the kidneys. Cefoprox 100 MG Tablet DT is used to treat pyelonephritis.

When not to use?

Allergy
Avoid using Cefoprox 100 MG Tablet DT if you are allergic to it. Inform your doctor if there is any history of allergy to cefpodoxime. If you experience any symptoms like a skin rash, itching/swelling (especially of the face/tongue/throat), dizziness, breathing difficulty, etc., inform your doctor and seek immediate medical attention.

Dosage

Missed Dose
Do not skip a dose of Cefoprox 100 MG Tablet DT. If you forgot to take a dose, take it as soon as you remember. And if the time for your next dose is nearer, do not double the dose to compensate for the missed one.
Overdose
Never take more than the prescribed dose of Cefoprox 100 MG Tablet DT. Seek emergency medical attention if you suspect that you might have taken an overdose of Cefoprox 100 MG Tablet DT.

General Instructions

Take Cefoprox 100 MG Tablet DT with food for better absorption. Dissolve the tablet in a teaspoonful or a glass of boiled and cooled water before taking it. Take this medicine at around the same time daily. Never take more than the prescribed dose.

Complete the entire treatment course with Cefoprox 100 MG Tablet DT to avoid antibiotic resistance. Consult your doctor if you experience any undesirable effects.

Keep away from the reach of children and pets. Do not use it after the expiry date. Ensure that unused medicine is disposed of properly. Do not give your medicine to other people even if their condition appears to be the same as yours.
