Cefolac 100 MG Syrup is a cephalosporin antibiotic used to treat bacterial infections affecting the lungs, throat, and urinary tract – the kidneys, bladder, ureters, or urethra. It is also used to treat a sexually transmitted infection caused by Neisseria gonorrhoea bacteria that infects both men and women. This syrup kills or stops the growth of bacteria causing the infection. It is not effective against infections caused by viruses.

Common side effects of Cefolac 100 MG Syrup are diarrhoea, stomach pain, headache, weakness, nausea, and vomiting. Do not take this medicine if you are previously allergic to it. It is likely to cause allergic skin reactions in some people.

Once an antibiotic is started, it is always recommended to finish the entire course of treatment. Cefolac 100 MG Syrup should only be used to treat or prevent infections that are caused by bacteria. Taking an antibiotic when it is not required can make it less effective for future infections. You can take Cefolac 100 MG Syrup with or without food. For the ease of remembering, take this cefixime syrup around the same time every day.

What is it prescribed for?
Urinary Tract Infection
An infection in any part of your urinary system- the kidneys, bladder, ureters, or urethra is called urinary tract infections (UTIs). UTIs are the most common infections in humans and woman are at greater risk of getting this infection. UTIs are caused by bacteria and in some cases, viruses or fungi. Cefolac 100 MG Syrup is used to treat urinary tract infections caused by bacteria.
Tonsilitis/Pharyngitis
Pharyngitis and tonsillitis are infections that cause swelling and soreness in the throat and tonsils. If it is the infection affects both the throat and the tonsils, then it would be called pharyngotonsillitis. Cefolac 100 MG Syrup is used to treat pharyngitis, tonsillitis, and/or pharyngotonsillitis.
Bronchitis
Bronchitis is the swelling and irritation of bronchial tubes that regulates air passage in the lungs. Cefolac 100 MG Syrup is used to treat acute bronchitis caused by bacteria.
Gonorrhoea
Gonorrhoea is a sexually transmitted infection (STI) caused by Neisseria gonorrhoea bacteria that infects both men and women. It spreads during vaginal, oral or anal sex without a condom or other barrier method. Cefolac 100 MG Syrup is used to treat the gonococcal infection.
Acute bacterial otitis media
Otitis media (AOM), is an infection of the middle ear (the area behind the eardrum), common in infants and young children. Cefolac 100 MG Syrup is used to treat acute otitis media caused by bacteria.

When not to use?

Allergy
Avoid taking Cefolac 100 MG Syrup if you are previously allergic to it. Some patients may get allergic reactions to this medicine. Seek immediate medical attention if you notice any symptoms of allergic reactions such as skin rash, itching/swelling (especially of the face/tongue/throat), severe dizziness, breathing difficulties, etc.

Dosage

Missed Dose
Try not to skip a dose of Cefolac 100 MG Syrup. And if a dose is skipped, do not add it up to the next dose.
Overdose
Seek emergency medical attention in case of an overdose with Cefolac 100 MG Syrup.

General Instructions

Take Cefolac 100 MG Syrup with or without food. Never take more than the prescribed dose. Take this medicine at around the same time daily. Do not give your medicine to other people even if their condition appears to be the same as yours.
Cefixime syrup dose for child will be determined by the doctor based on the age and bodyweight. It is available as strength of cefixime 100mg syrup, 200mg, 50mg and 500mg. Cefixime syrup price may vary based on the strengths.
