Vermact 6 Tablet (Ivermectin 6mg)

Description

Vermact 6 MG Tablet is used to treat worm infections in the intestine, skin, and eyes. This medicine works by killing the worms.

Vermact 6 MG Tablet may have side effects like nausea, dizziness, weakness, diarrhoea, sleepiness, etc. These side effects are mild and may subside by themselves. However, consult your doctor if they bother you for a longer time or worsen. Avoid driving vehicles or operating machines if you feel dizzy.

Vermact 6 MG Tablet is to be taken on an empty stomach. It is usually recommended as a single dose. However, your doctor may suggest you take this medicine a few times a year at relevant intervals till the infection is completely cured. Do not take more than the recommended dose.

Vermact 6 MG Tablet should be avoided if you are allergic to it. Inform your doctor if you have any other health problems or taking any other medicines. It is not recommended for use in children with a bodyweight of less than 15 kg. Consult your doctor if you are pregnant or are breastfeeding.

What is it prescribed for?
Onchocerciasis
Onchocerciasis (river blindness) is a worm infection caused by Onchocerca volvulus and is spread by the bite of an infectious blackfly. It is characterised by severe itching, bumps under the skin, and vision impairment. If left untreated, this condition may also cause partial or complete vision loss. Vermact 6 MG Tablet is used to treat this condition.
Strongyloidiasis
Strongyloidiasis is a parasitic infection caused by Strongyloides stercoralis, or sometimes S. fülleborni. It may cause abdominal pain, diarrhoea, rashes, etc. Vermact 6 MG Tablet is used to treat this condition.
Scabies
Scabies is a skin infection caused by the mite called Sarcoptes scabiei also known as itch mite. It is characterised by tiny red rashes with constant itching. Vermact 6 MG Tablet is used to treat this condition.

When not to use?

Allergy
Avoid taking Vermact 6 MG Tablet if you are allergic to it. Serious allergic reactions to this medicine are rare. However, seek immediate medical attention if you notice any symptoms such as skin rash, itching/swelling (especially of the face/tongue/throat), severe dizziness, breathing difficulty, etc.

Warnings

Warnings for special population
Pregnancy
Due to the lack of relevant safety information, Vermact 6 MG Tablet is not recommended for use during pregnancy unless clearly needed. Hence, consult your doctor if you are pregnant.
Breast-feeding
Vermact 6 MG Tablet may pass into the breastmilk in low concentrations. Hence, if you are breastfeeding, consult your doctor before taking this medicine.
General warnings
Mazzotti reaction
Mazzotti reaction is a severe allergic response characterised by fever, itching, stomach pain, low blood pressure, joint pain, build-up of fluid in the body’s tissue, etc. Vermact 6 MG Tablet should be used with caution as it may cause a Mazzotti reaction in some cases.
Pretreatment assessment for Loa loa infection
If you are co-infected with Loa loa (an infectious condition caused by a type of worm known as Loa loa) during treatment with Vermact 6 MG Tablet, it may cause an increased risk of encephalopathy (a condition that affects the function or structure of the brain and causes damage). Therefore, if you are in Loa loa endemic areas, a pretreatment assessment for such infection is necessary.
Use in children
Vermact 6 MG Tablet is not recommended for use in children with a bodyweight of less than 15 kg.
Driving and operating machines
Vermact 6 MG Tablet may cause side effects such as dizziness, drowsiness, or tremor. Hence, if you experience such symptoms, avoid driving vehicles or operating machines.

Dosage

Missed Dose
Since Vermact 6 MG Tablet is usually given in a single dose, the chances of missing a dose are low. However, in some cases where your infection has not cleared, your doctor may recommend additional doses after a few months. In such situations, if you miss a dose, take the missed dose as soon as you remember.
Overdose
Never take more than the recommended dose. Seek emergency medical treatment in case of an overdose with Vermact 6 MG Tablet.

Interactions

General Instructions
Take Vermact 6 MG Tablet on an empty stomach. Do not break, chew, or crush the tablet.

Do not take in larger amounts than advised. Consult your doctor if you experience any undesirable effects that persist or worsen.

Avoid consumption of alcohol during treatment with Vermact 6 MG Tablet as it may increase the risk of side effects.

Your doctor may recommend stool and blood tests to check if your infection has cleared.
