What is WINBP AM 20MG?

WINBP AM 20MG contains combination of Amlodipine Besylate and Olmesartan
Amlodipine tablets belongs to a group of medicines called calcium antagonists
Olmesartan belongs to a group of medicines called angiotensin-II receptor antagonists. They lower blood pressure by relaxing the blood vessels

What WINBP AM 20MG is used for?

It is used to treat

High blood pressure (hypertension)
Chest pain due to narrowing of the blood vessels of the heart muscle (angina pectoris) or the rarer form of chest pain caused by cramping of the blood vessels of the heart muscle called Prinzmetal or variant angina.

Warning & Precautions

Talk to your doctor before taking this medicine, if you:

Are allergic (hypersensitive) to Amlodipine, Olmesartan or to any other ingredients of its medicine
Are suffering from heart conditions
Suffer from chest pain at rest or with minimal effort (unstable angina pectoris)
Have severe low blood pressure (hypotension)
Suffer from severe increase in blood pressure (Hypertensive crisis)
Have liver or kidney problems
Are giving this medicine to a child under 18 years of age
Are elderly, your doctor may monitor you closely
Suffer from yellowing of the skin and eyes (jaundice) or problems with drainage of the bile from the gallbladder (biliary obstruction e.g. gallstones)
Have diabetes or impaired kidney function

Tell your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicines:

Medicines that can lower blood pressure (e.g. verapamil, diltiazem)
Ketoconazole and itraconazole (antifungal medicines used to treat skin and fungal infections)
Clarithromycin, erythromycin and telithromycin, rifampicin, rifabutin (antibiotics)
Nefazodone, medicine to treat depression
John’s wort, herbal medicine for depression
Dexamethasone (corticosteroid used to treat inflammatory and autoimmune conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis)
Dantrolene (infusion for severe body temperature abnormalities)
Tacrolimus (medicine used to alter the way your immune system works)
Simvastatin (cholesterol lowering medicine)
Cyclosporine (an immunosuppressant)
Phenobarbital, phenytoin and carbamazepine (medicines for epilepsy)
Ritonavir, Indinavir, Nelfinavir, Nevirapine (antiviral medicine used to treat HIV and AIDS)
Sildenafil (medicine for impotence)
Potassium supplements, a salt substitute which contains potassium, water tablets (diuretics) or heparin (for thinning the blood)
Lithium (a medicine used to treat mood swings and some types of depression) used at the same time as WINBP AM 20MG Tablets may increase the toxicity of lithium
Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory (NSAIDs) medicines (medicines used to relieve pain, swelling and other symptoms of inflammation, including arthritis) used at the same time as WINBP AM 20MG Tablets may increase the risk of kidney failure and the effect of Olmesartan can be decreased by NSAIDs
Colesevelam hydrochloride, a drug that lowers the level of cholesterol in your blood, as the effect of WINBP AM 20MG Tablets may be decreased
Certain antacids (indigestion remedies), as the effect of WINBP AM 20MG Tablets
ACE-inhibitor (for example enalapril, lisinopril, Ramipril)

Directions & For Use

Always take WINBP AM 20MG tablets exactly as your doctor has told you.

Methods and routes of administration

You should take this medicine at the same time each day with a drink of water
WINBP AM 20MG Tablets can be taken with or without food
Swallow the tablets with an enough water (e.g. one glass)
The recommended starting dose is one 10 mg tablet once a day. However, if your blood pressure is not controlled, your doctor may decide to change your dose up to 20 or 40 mg once a day, or prescribe additional medicines
In patients with mild to moderate kidney disease, your dose will not be higher than 20 mg once a day
Adults

The usual starting dose is 5 mg once daily. If necessary, your doctor may increase the dose to 10 mg once daily
Use in children and adolescents (6 -17 years old)

The recommended usual starting dose is 2.5 mg a day. The maximum recommended dose is 5 mg a day
It is important to keep taking the tablets. Do not wait until your tablets are finished before seeing your doctor
WINBP AM 20MG Tablets 2.5 mg is not currently available and the 2.5 mg dose cannot be obtained with WINBP AM 20MG tablets 5 mg and 10 mg as these tablets are not manufactured to break into two equal halves
Elderly patients

There is no special dosage for the elderly; however, care must be taken when the dose is increased
If you have kidney problems

The normal dosage is recommended. WINBP AM 20MG Tablets cannot be removed from the blood by dialysis (artificial kidney). WINBP AM 20MG tablets should be administered with caution to patients undergoing dialysis
If you have liver problems

Your doctor will decide if this medicine is suitable for you and the correct dose for you to take
If you take more WINBP AM 20MG Tablets

If you take more tablets than you should or if a child accidentally swallows some, go to your doctor or nearest emergency department immediately and take your medicine pack with you
If you forget to take WINBP AM 20MG Tablets

If you forget a dose, take your normal dose on the following day as usual. Do not take a double dose to make up for a forgotten tablet
If you stop taking WINBP AM 20MG Tablets

It is important to continue to take Olmesartan unless your doctor tells you to stop

Side Effects

Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effect, although not everybody gets them.

Allergic reactions such as swelling of the face, mouth and/or larynx (voice box) together with itching and rash may occur
Severe light-headedness or fainting

Additional Information

Taking WINBP AM 20MG tablets with food and drink

Grapefruit juice and grapefruit should not be consumed by people who are taking WINBP AM 20MG tablets. This is because grapefruit and grapefruit juice can lead to an increase in the blood levels of the active ingredient WINBP AM 20MG, which can cause an unpredictable increase in the blood pressure lowering effect of WINBP AM 20MG
