Velfu Tablet (Alfuzosin 10mg)

INTRODUCTION

VELFU contains Alfuzosin which belongs to a group of medicines called alpha-1-blockers. It is used to treat moderate to severe symptoms of Benign Prostate Hyperplasia. It is a condition where the prostate gland enlarges, but the growth in itself is not cancerous (benign). An enlarged prostate gland causes uncomfortable urinary symptoms, like blocking the flow of urine out of the bladder. This medicine is usually given only to men.

Take this medicine according to the dose and frequency as advised by your doctor. Swallow as a whole, do not crush or chew. Consumption of alcohol is not recommended during treatment with VELFU. Do not drive or operate machinery while taking this medicine, since it may cause lightheadedness, dizziness or weakness. Before taking this medicine tell your doctor if you have kidney, liver or heart problems. The common side effects are dizziness, headache and tiredness.

HOW VELFU WORKS

VELFU works by relaxing the prostate gland muscle which reduces the narrowing of the urethra and so makes it easier to pass urine.

DIRECTIONS FOR USE

Take VELFU according to the dose and frequency as advised by your doctor. Swallow as a whole, do not crush or chew. It should be taken after a meal.

SIDE EFFECTS OF VELFU

COMMON
Dizziness, headache
Tiredness
Nausea
Stomach pain

HOW TO MANAGE SIDE EFFECTS

Nausea:

Stick to simple normal meals and do not eat rich or spicy foods.

Dizziness:

Get up and move around to feel awake, take small naps to edge off the sleepiness. Give your eyes a break to avoid fatigue and eat a healthy food to boost energy.

Stomach pain:

WARNING & PRECAUTIONS

PREGNANCY
VELFU is not recommended for use in pregnant women unless necessary. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor.

BREASTFEEDING
VELFU is not recommended for use in breastfeeding women unless necessary. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor.

DRIVING AND USING MACHINES
Do not drive or operate machinery while taking this medicine, since it may cause lightheadedness, dizziness or weakness.

ALCOHOL
Consumption of alcohol is not recommended during treatment with VELFU.

KIDNEY
VELFU should be used with caution in patients suffering from active kidney diseases. Consult your doctor for advice.

LIVER
VELFU is not recommended in patients with active liver diseases. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor.

ALLERGY
Do not take if you are allergic (hypersensitive) to Alfuzosin.

HEART DISEASE
VELFU should be used with caution in patients with acute heart failure. Consult your doctor for advice.

OTHERS

Inform your doctor if you have or had,

Low blood pressure (orthostatic hypotension)
Stroke or short-lasting symptoms similar to stroke
Chest pain (angina)

INTERACTIONS

Inform your doctor if you are taking or have recently taken any other medicines, including medicines obtained without a prescription or the following,

Doxazosin, prazosin, terazosin or tamsulosin
Ketoconazole, itraconazole (used for fungal infections)
Clarithromycin, erythromycin (used to treat infections)
Ritonavir (used to treat HIV)
Medicine used to treat chest pain (nitrates)
