Valprol CR 750mg Tablet is an anticonvulsant medication that is used for the treatment of all types of epilepsies, a brain disorder characterized by uncontrolled jerking movements and loss of consciousness. Take this medicine at the same time regularly. Valprol -CR 750 Tablet is a combination of two medicines used to treat epilepsy, a neurological disorder in which there are recurrent episodes of seizures or fits. It controls the abnormal activity of the brain, relaxes the nerves and hence, prevents seizures or fits.

Valprol CR 750mg Tablet should be taken with food. Your doctor will decide the correct dose for you. This may increase gradually until your condition is stable. This medicine may take several weeks to work but it is important to take it regularly to get the benefit. Do not stop taking it, even if you feel fine unless your doctor advises you to. You may have more seizures, or your bipolar disorder may get worse.

The most common side effects of this medicine include nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, swelling of gums, headache, sleepiness, tremor, hair loss and liver injury. Most side effects wear off, but if they bother you or do not go away, tell your doctor. There may be ways of preventing or reducing these effects.

Before taking this medicine, tell your doctor if you have kidney or liver problems, meningitis or depression or suicidal thoughts. Also let your doctor know about all other medications you are using as some may affect, or be affected by, this medicine, including contraceptive pills. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, Valprol -CR 750 Tablet can be taken if it is clearly needed but the dose may be adjusted. You should avoid driving or riding a bicycle if this medicine makes you drowsy or dizzy. You may need frequent blood tests to check how you are responding to this medicine.

You should avoid alcohol while taking Valprol -CR 750 Tablet, as it may worsen certain side effects. This medicine can also lead to weight gain, eat a healthy balanced diet, avoid snacking with high-calorie food, and exercise regularly. Inform your doctor if you develop any unusual changes in mood or behavior, new or worsening depression, or suicidal thoughts or behavior.

What is it prescribed for?

Epilepsy

This medicine is used in the treatment of all types of epilepsy, which is a brain disorder that causes repeated seizures. Uncontrolled jerking movements and loss of consciousness are some of the symptoms of epilepsy.

Allergy

This medicine is not recommended for use in patients with a known allergy to sodium valproate, valproic acid, or any other inactive ingredients present along with the formulation.

Active and/or severe liver disease

This medicine is not recommended for use in patients with active and/or severe liver diseases.

Urea cycle disorders

This medicine is not recommended for use in patients with urea cycle disorders (high ammonium levels in the blood) or family history of urea cycle disorder.

Mitochondrial disorders

This medicine is not recommended for use in patients and children who are suspected to have the mitochondrial disorder (POLG e.g Alpers-Huttenlocher Syndrome).

Porphyria

This medicine is not recommended for use in patients suffering from porphyria, a disorder where there is an over-accumulation of porphyrin in the body.

Pregnancy

General warnings

Pancreatitis

Bleeding disorder

Impaired kidney function

This medicine should be used with caution in patients with kidney diseases due to the increased risk of worsening of the patient’s condition. Close monitoring of kidney function is recommended during treatment with this medicine. Suicidal ideation

Weight gain

Therapy with this medicine may cause weight gain in some patients.

Driving and operating machinery

This medicine may cause symptoms such as weakness, drowsiness, sleepiness, dizziness, etc. in some patients. It is advised that you do not perform any activities such as driving a vehicle or operating heavy machinery if you experience any of these symptoms during treatment with this medicine.

Other uses

Your doctor may prescribe this medicine to treat manic episodes (a mental disorder characterized by hyperactivity and racing thoughts) associated with bipolar disorder and sometimes may be used as prophylaxis in migraine headaches characterized by severe headache, eye pain, nausea, and vomiting in certain circumstances.

Missed Dose

Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost the time for your next dose, skip the missed dose. Do not double your dose to make up for the missed dose.
