Medical Description

The composition of Valera-M consists of 2 antidiabetic medications evogliptin and metformin hydrochloride that belong to the gliptins or dipeptidyl peptidase-4 and biguanides class of medications, respectively.

Allergy to the ingredients
Complications of diabetes such as diabetic coma and ketoacidosis
Severe infections that develop before and after the surgery
Complications related to kidneys such as failure, malfunction
Decrease in the oxygen concentration in the blood due to problems related to heart, lungs and excessive loss of blood
Diseases of the liver, toxic effects of alcohol, chronic alcohol intake

Low sugar level in the blood (trembling of the body, confusion, excessive hunger, abnormal sweating)
Nausea
Flatulence
Burning in chest
Loss of appetite
Diarrhea
Irritation in nose, throat, and skin
Lactic acidosis (weakness, joint pains, muscle aches, drowsiness, pain in the abdomen)

Other General Warnings

Talk to your doctor if
You have planned for a surgery or a scan that involves injecting iodine-containing dye into the body
You have an abnormality in calcium and Vitamin B12 absorption
You have allergy to any of the components of Valera M
You have hypoglycaemia or lactic acidosis
You have pancreatitis or kidney disease

How Does It Work?
Evogliptin controls the secretion of insulin and prevents the rise in blood sugar after meals. Metformin decreases the production of sugar from the liver and decreases the absorption of sugar in the intestines. The medicine is used in the management of type 2 diabetes mellitus along with a regular exercise regimen.

Directions for Use of Valera M 5/1000mg Strip Of 15 Tablets

Valera-M is taken in the dose as prescribed by the treating doctor. It is usually taken once a day preferably at the same time every day. The medicine is taken along with food to minimize the side effects. Do not crush or chew but swallow the whole tablet with water.
The health condition of the elderly people prescribed with this medicine should be monitored regularly as there is a possibility of decreased normal body functions related to kidneys and gastrointestinal system in these individuals.

Interactions with other medicines
Valera M given with nifedipine increases the absorption of metformin
Cationic medicines like cimetidine and digoxin have the potential to compete with metformin in kidneys and affect excretion rates
Thiazides, certain diuretics, oral contraceptives, phenytoin, estrogens, steroids, thyroid products, nicotinic acid and some other medicines have the risk of increasing blood sugar levels

Storage and disposal of Valera M 5/1000mg Strip Of 15 Tablets

The medicine is stored in a dry area that is away from direct exposure to sunlight in a tightly closed container at a temperature below 30 degrees celsius. The unused medicine should be disposed off after 24 months from the date of manufacture.

Dosage of Valera M 5/1000mg Strip Of 15 Tablets

Overdose
Overdose of metformin over 50grams has resulted in symptoms of lactic acidosis which include rapid breathing, reduced blood pressure, decreased body temperature, severe pain in the abdomen, confusion of mind. Seek immediate medical attention in case of lactic acidosis.
Missed a Dose
Take the missed dose once you remember it and continue with the usual schedule. Avoid taking an extra dose of Valera-M to cover up the compromised dose.
