Trivastal LA Tablet (Piribedil 50mg)

INTRODUCTION

TRIVASTAL LA contains Piribedil which belongs to the group of medicines called Antiparkinsonian agents. It is used in the treatment of Parkinson’s disease either alone or in combination with other drugs. Parkinson’s disease is a movement disorder caused due to less production of brain chemical called dopamine by brain cells. It is characterized by symptoms such as uncontrollable movements such as shaking, stiffness and difficulty with balance and coordination.

TRIVASTAL LA is also used as an adjunct in symptomatic treatment of chronic pathological cognitive and neurosensorial deficit in elderly patients (problems with memory, cognition or paying attention) and intermittent claudication (condition due to narrowing or blockage of the main artery in the leg (femoral artery) that causes muscle pain during exercise and stops while at rest) in chronic obliterating arteriopathies (artery disease) of the lower limbs (in stage 2).

TRIVASTAL LA is not recommended for use in patients with heart disease (such as cardiovascular shock or acute phase of myocardial infarction), fructose intolerance, glucose or galactose malabsorption or sucrase-isomaltase deficiency.

TRIVASTAL LA is not recommended for use in pregnant and breast-feeding women. It should be used with caution in elderly patients. The most common side effects of taking TRIVASTAL LA are nausea, vomiting, flatulence and dizziness. Consult your doctor if any of the side effect worsens.

USES OF TRIVASTAL LA

Treats:

• Parkinson’s disease (either alone or in combination with other drugs)

Adjunct in:

• Treatment of chronic pathological cognitive and neurosensorial deficit (problems with memory, cognition or paying attention)
• Treatment of intermittent claudication (muscle pain due to blood flow problems) in chronic obliterating arteriopathies of the lower limbs

HOW TRIVASTAL LA WORKS

TRIVASTAL LA helps to control symptoms of Parkinson’s disease by acting on certain brain receptors (called dopamine receptors) which increases the production of brain chemical called dopamine resulting in improved co-ordination of the body movements. It also aids in the increased blood flow in the thigh bone (femoral blood flow) which helps in better movement of limbs.

DIRECTIONS FOR USE

Take TRIVASTAL LA as advised by your physician. Swallow the medicine with a glass of water. Do not crush or chew the medicine. Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration of TRIVASTAL LA for you depending upon your age, body weight and disease condition.

SIDE EFFECTS OF TRIVASTAL LA

HOW TO MANAGE SIDE EFFECTS

Nausea:

Take this medicine just after meals. Stick to simple meals. Avoid eating oily, fried or spicy foods. Do not lie down or sleep immediately after eating. Consult your doctor if the symptom does not improve.

Vomiting:

Drink clear or ice-cold drinks, eat light, bland foods and avoid fried, oily or sweet foods. Consult your doctor if the symptom does not improve.

Flatulence:

Eat smaller and frequent meals. Eat and drink slowly and exercise regularly (such as daily walk). Limit the intake of foods that cause flatulence such as beans, lentils, dairy products and whole grains. Consult your doctor if the symptom does not improve.

Dizziness:

Lie down until dizziness is gone. Move slowly and carefully, do not hurry. Get adequate rest. Drink plenty of water and other fluids. Avoid coffee, cigarettes, alcohol and drugs. If symptom does improve, consult your doctor.

INTERACTIONS

A. Drug–Drug Interactions:

Before taking TRIVASTAL LA inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicines:

• Antipsychotic neuroleptics (Ex. haloperidol, risperidone)
• Antiemetic neuroleptics (Ex. olanzapine)
• Tetrabenazine (used to treat movement disorder)

Overdosage:

If you or anyone else accidentally take too much of TRIVASTAL LA, consult your doctor immediately or visit the nearby hospital. Overdosage symptoms of TRIVASTAL LA are blood pressure instability, nausea and vomiting.
