Tranlok 500 Tablet (Tranexamic Acid 500mg)

INTRODUCTION

TRANLOK 500MG contains Tranexamic acid which belongs to a group of medicines called anti-fibrinolytic agents, which is used to stop or reduce unwanted bleeding. It is used to prevent or reduce bleeding for a short period of time in different conditions such as prostate surgery (post-prostatectomy), bladder surgery, heavy periods (menorrhagia), nose bleeds, cervical surgery, bleeding inside the eye, tooth removal haemophiliacs (people who bleed more easily than normal), angioneurotic oedema (hereditary disease).

Blood clots are formed by a protein called fibrin. There are enzymes in your body that break down fibrin which makes blood clots do not stay in place. This process is called “fibrinolysis”. TRANLOK 500MG is an anti-fibrinolytic which helps prevent fibrinolysis by stopping the fibrin from being broken down. This prevents the breakdown of blood clots and helps them to stay in place where they are needed (excessive bleeding during periods, or after surgery).

Always take this TRANLOK 500MG exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Before taking this medicine, tell your doctor if you have liver, kidney or heart problems, pregnant women and breastfeeding mothers. Your doctor will prescribe the right dose depends on your child’s age and body weight. The common side effects are nausea, diarrhoea and stomach pain.

HOW TRANLOK 500MG WORKS

DIRECTIONS FOR USE

Always take this TRANLOK 500MG exactly as your doctor has told you. Swallow as a whole, with a glass of water. Do not crush or chew. It can be taken with or without food.

SIDE EFFECTS OF TRANLOK 500MG

SERIOUS
Pain or feeling of heaviness in chest
Sudden shortness of breath
Coughing up blood
Unusual pain or swelling in your arms or legs
Fainting
COMMON
Nausea
Diarrhoea
Stomach pain
RARE
Eyesight problems (colour vision, blood clot)
Allergic reactions like itching and or skin rash
Swelling of the face, lips, tongue and throat with difficulty in swallowing or breathing

HOW TO MANAGE SIDE EFFECTS

Nausea:

Stick to simple normal meals and do not eat rich or spicy foods.

Diarrhoea:

Drink plenty of fluids to avoid dehydration. ORS should be used to prevent dehydration.

Stomach pain:

Place a warm water bottle on your abdomen. Soak in a warm bath. Drink plenty of clear fluids and water.

WARNING & PRECAUTIONS

PREGNANCY
TRANLOK 500MG should be used with caution in pregnant women. Consult your doctor before taking this medicine.

BREASTFEEDING
TRANLOK 500MG should be used with caution in breastfeeding mothers. Consult your doctor before taking this medicine.

KIDNEY
TRANLOK 500MG is not recommended in patients with active kidney diseases. Consult your doctor for advice.

LIVER
TRANLOK 500MG should be used with caution in patients suffering from liver function impairment or active liver diseases. Consult your doctor for advice.

ALLERGY
Do not take if you are allergic (hypersensitive) to Tranexamic acid.

OTHERS

Inform your doctor if you have or had,

Blood clot in blood vessels (thrombosis)
Disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC)
History of fits
Blood in your urine
Uncontrollable bleeding
Irregular periods (women)

INTERACTIONS

Inform your doctor if you are taking or have recently taken any other medicines, including medicines obtained without a prescription or the following,

Streptokinase (used to dissolve blood clots)
