Description
Telista-CH 80 Tablet is a combination of Telmisartan and Chlorthalidone. It is an anti-hypertensive medicine used in the treatment of high blood pressure. It relaxes the blood vessels and removes excess water and sodium from the body. It also reduces your chances of having a heart attack or stroke when used for a long term.
Telista-CH 80 Tablet shows common side effects like tiredness, nausea, headache, diarrhoea, and upset stomach. Consult your doctor if the side effects persist for a long time. It may cause dizziness, so get up slowly when rising from a sitting or lying down position.
Telista-CH 80 Tablet can be taken with or without food. It contains a diuretic (water pill) and will make you urinate more, so avoid taking it before four hours of going to bed. Do not stop taking this medicine without consulting your doctor. There is a high risk of heart attack and stroke if Telista-CH 80 Tablet is stopped abruptly.
Telista-CH 80 Tablet may interact with other medications. Inform your doctor if you have any medical conditions of your heart, liver or kidney and if you are taking any medications. Your doctor may advise you to get your blood pressure and heart function monitored regularly while you are under treatment with Telista-CH 80 Tablet. Hypertension (high blood pressure) is a condition in which the force exerted by the blood on the blood vessel walls is high. It may be caused by genetic or environmental factors. Telista-CH 80 Tablet relaxes the blood vessels and improves the blood flow and helps the heart to pump more efficiently.

When not to use?
Allergy
Telista-CH 80 Tablet is not recommended for use if you are allergic to any of the components of this medicine. Seek immediate medical attention if you notice allergic reactions such as hives (painful eruptions that itch and sting), difficulty in breathing, swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.
Aliskiren
Aliskiren (a medicine used to reduce blood pressure) is not recommended to be taken along with Telista-CH 80 Tablet due to the increased risk of kidney damage. This risk is especially higher in the elderly and in people with diabetes and kidney problems.
Anuria
Anuria is a condition where the kidney is unable to produce urine. Chlorthalidone is present in Telista-CH 80 Tablet acts by removing excess water and sodium from your body. Telista-CH 80 Tablet is not recommended if you have anuria as it may further damage your kidneys.
Severe kidney impairment
Taking Telista-CH 80 Tablet when your kidneys are severely damaged is not recommended as this medicine may accumulate in the kidneys that may worsen the condition of your damaged kidneys.
Severe liver impairment
Telista-CH 80 Tablet is not recommended to be taken in severe liver damage as it may cause accumulation of the medicine in the liver and worsen the condition further.
Warnings
Warnings for special population
Pregnancy
Telista-CH 80 Tablet is not recommended for use in pregnancy as it may lead to serious complications in your foetus. Consult your doctor if you are pregnant or planning a pregnancy.
Breast-feeding
Telista-CH 80 Tabletis not recommended for use in breastfeeding women as this medicine may pass into the breast milk and cause serious problems in your infant. It may also dehydrate your baby.
General warnings
Hypotension
Hypotension is a decrease in your blood pressure. Using Telista-CH 80 Tablet will further reduce your blood pressure which can be fatal, especially if you have low levels of sodium in your body or if you have low fluid volumes due to excessive vomiting, diarrhoea, burns, kidney failure, etc.
Hyperkalemia
Telista-CH 80 Tablet may increase the potassium levels in your blood (hyperkalaemia). Avoid potassium-rich foods (potatoes, bananas) and potassium supplements during treatment with this medicine. Your doctor will suggest tests to monitor your potassium levels.
Use in Children
Telista-CH 80 Tablet is not recommended for use in children below 18 years of age since the safety and efficacy of this medicine are not clinically established.
Volume and electrolyte disturbances
Telista-CH 80 Tablet may alter the blood volume and electrolyte levels. This may cause dizziness, dry mouth, and acid-base imbalance (an imbalance between carbon dioxide (acid) and bicarbonates (base) in your blood). This risk is especially higher if you have kidney and liver problems. Your blood pressure and electrolyte levels have to be closely monitored while you are on this medication.
Driving or operating machines
Use of Telista-CH 80 Tablet may cause symptoms such as drowsiness, blurred vision, or dizziness. Avoid performing activities that require high mental alertness like driving vehicles or operating heavy machines if you experience any of these symptoms.
Dosage
Missed Dose
If you forget to take a dose of Telista-CH 80 Tablet, take it as soon as you remember. If it is time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and take your next dose at the regular time. Do not double the dose.
Overdose
Do not take Telista-CH 80 Tablet more than the prescribed dose. If you suspect that you might have taken an overdose of this medicine, go to the emergency department of your local hospital.
Interactions
General Instructions
Take Telista-CH 80 Tablet orally with or without food.
Do not chew, crush or break the tablet.
You should not take larger amounts than that prescribed.
Do not stop taking the medicine before completion of the course or without consulting your doctor as it may cause withdrawal symptoms.
Telista-CH 80 Tablet may cause dehydration. Drink plenty of fluids and inform your doctor if you develop extreme thirst, very dry mouth or muscle weakness.
It may cause dizziness so get up slowly when rising from a sitting or lying position. Consult the doctor if you experience any undesirable effects.
Making certain lifestyle changes like regular exercise, weight control, avoid smoking, limiting alcohol use, and lowering the quantity of salt will also help to decrease your blood pressure.
