Styptin-CR

Styptin-CR contains Norethisterone which belongs to a group of medicines called Progestogens which are similar to the natural female hormone progesterone. It is used to treat or manage heavy, painful, irregular periods, premenstrual tension (PMT), endometriosis. Endometriosis is a condition (where tissue from your womb is found outside your womb) and breast cancer. It is also prescribed to delay next period.

Norethisterone is a synthetic progestin used to treat hormone related conditions such as menopausal symptoms and endometriosis. It works similar to natural progesterone with much higher potency. It alters the cervical and endometrial function at the pelvic level and inhibits the pituitary hormones that plays a role in follicular maturation and ovulation. Thus, by mimicking the effects of natural progesterone STYPTIN CR helps in treating menstrual irregularities by regulating the growth and shedding of the womb lining.

Always take STYPTIN CR exactly as directed by your doctor. Before taking this medicine, tell your doctor if you have liver, kidney or heart problems and if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Do not take if you are allergic (hypersensitive) to Norethisterone. It is not indicated for children. The common side effects are headache, dizziness, nausea and vomiting.

STYPTIN CR works by mimicking the effects of natural progesterone. This progesterone levels naturally fluctuate throughout monthly menstrual cycle. It helps in regulating the growth and shedding of the womb lining, which treats menstrual irregularities.

DIRECTIONS FOR USE

Always take STYPTIN CR exactly as your doctor has told you. Swallow as a whole and do not crush or chew. It can be taken with or without food.

HOW TO MANAGE SIDE EFFECTS

Headache:

Rest and drink plenty of fluids. Apply a cold, wet cloth or ice pack to your forehead. Rest in a quiet, comfortable, dark room.

Fainting:

Get up and move around to feel awake, take small naps to edge off the sleepiness. Give your eyes a break to avoid fatigue and eat a healthy food to boost energy.

WARNING & PRECAUTIONS

PREGNANCY
STYPTIN CR is not recommended for use if you are pregnant or think you might be pregnant. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor.

BREASTFEEDING
STYPTIN CR should be used with caution in breastfeeding women unless necessary. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor.

KIDNEY
STYPTIN CR should be used with caution in patients suffering from active kidney diseases. Consult your doctor for advice.

LIVER
STYPTIN CR is not recommended in patients with active liver diseases. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor.

ALLERGY
Do not take if you are allergic (hypersensitive) to Norethisterone.

HEART DISEASE
STYPTIN CR should be used with caution in patients suffering from active heart diseases. Consult your doctor for advice.

Inform your doctor if you have or had,

Vaginal bleeding
Blood clots (deep vein thrombosis)
Heart attack or angina
Pemphigoid gestationis (rash appears as small blisters on abdomen)
Generalised itching all over your body (pruritis)
Porphyria (inherited blood disease)
Epilepsy
Migraine headaches
Asthma
Are overweight
Systemic lupus erythematosus
Major surgery
History of repeated miscarriage

INTERACTIONS Styptin-CR

Inform your doctor if you are taking or have recently taken any other medicines, including medicines obtained without a prescription or the following,

Phenytoin, carbamazepine (used to treat epilepsy)
Tetracyclines, rifampicin and co-trimoxazole (used to treat an infection)
Ritonavir, nelfinavir (used to treat HIV)
Anticancer medicines
St John’s wort (Herbal medicine)
Aminoglutethimide (used in Cushing’s Syndrome)
Ciclosporin (for suppressing the immune system)
Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medicines (used to treat pain and inflammation)
Medicines for high blood pressure
