Safexim O Tablet (Cefixime 200mg / Ofloxacin 200mg)

Description

Safexim O Tablet is an antibacterial medication that consists of Cefixime and Ofloxacin. It is used for the treatment of typhoid fever and urinary tract infections. It is not effective against infections caused by viruses. This tablet kills the bacteria and stops their further growth.

Safexim O Tablet can cause some side effects of this medicine are diarrhoea, stomach pain, headache, weakness, nausea, and vomiting. Consult your doctor if these symptoms persist. Avoid any activity that requires concentration as Safexim O Tablet may cause drowsiness and dizziness. Do not use this medicine if you are allergic to it. It is not recommended for use in children below 18 years of age.

Safexim O Tablet can be taken with or without food. Once the antibiotic treatment is started, it is recommended to finish the entire course of treatment to prevent antibiotic resistance. Avoid taking any dairy product like milk with Safexim O Tablet as they can interfere with its absorption.

Safexim O Tablet may not be suitable for all people, Inform your doctor if you have liver or kidney diseases before taking this medicine. Consult your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding women before using it. It is recommended to avoid alcohol consumption while taking this medicine.

What is it prescribed for?
Typhoid fever
Typhoid fever is a bacterial infection caused by Salmonella Typhi. This bacteria is spread through contaminated food or water by a human carrier. Safexim O Tablet is used to treat typhoid fever. Symptoms may include high fever, loss of appetite, constipation, diarrhoea, vomiting, etc.
Urinary Tract Infection
An infection in any part of your urinary system (kidneys, bladder, ureters, or urethra) is called a urinary tract infection (UTI). UTIs are the most common infections in humans and women are at greater risk of getting this infection. UTIs are caused by bacteria and in some cases, viruses or fungi. Safexim O Tablet is used to treat urinary tract infections caused by bacteria.

When not to use?

Allergy
Avoid taking Safexim O Tablet if you are previously allergic to it. Seek immediate medical attention if you notice any symptoms of allergic reactions such as skin rash, itching/swelling (especially of the face/tongue/throat), severe dizziness, breathing difficulty, etc.
Tendinitis or tendon rupture
Safexim O Tablet can cause muscle damage especially in old age. Do not use Safexim O Tablet if you have tendonitis (swelling of fibres that attach bone with muscles) or tendon rupture (a partial or complete tear of the tendon- the tissue that connects muscle to bone).
Myasthenia gravis
Myasthenia gravis is a skeletal muscle weakness condition characterized by severe weakness of any of the muscles under your voluntary control, including the arms and legs. Safexim O Tablet should be avoided if you have myasthenia gravis because it may worsen your condition.

Warnings

Warnings for special population
Pregnancy
Safexim O Tablet is not recommended to use in pregnancy as this medicine may affect the developing joints of your foetus. Your doctor may prescribe this medicine if the benefits outweigh the risks.
Breast-feeding
Safexim O Tablet is not recommended to use in breastfeeding as it may harm your infant. Consult your doctor. Your doctor may prescribe this medicine if the benefits outweigh the risks. If this medicine is used the baby should be observed for symptoms like diarrhoea or yeast infections.
General warnings
Antibiotic resistance
Finish your entire course of treatment with Safexim O Tablet, even if the condition gets better to avoid antibiotic resistance (the bacteria may become resistant to antibiotics). If you still feel unwell after completing your antibiotic course, consult your doctor.
Driving or operating machines
Safexim O Tablet may cause dizziness, confusion, or fits in some people. Do not drive a vehicle or operate machinery after taking this medicine.
Photosensitivity
Safexim O Tablet may make you more sensitive to sunlight or tanning lights. You may have to use sunscreens or wear protective clothing to avoid adverse reactions while going out after taking this medicine.
Diarrhoea
Safexim O Tablet can cause diarrhoea because it may also kill the helpful bacteria in your stomach or intestine. Get emergency medical help if you experience severe diarrhoea that is watery or bloody.

Dosage

Missed Dose
If you forget to take a dose of Safexim O Tablet, take it as soon as you remember. If it is time for your next dose, do not double your dose to make up for the missed one.
Overdose
Never take more than the prescribed dose. Seek emergency medical attention if you suspect that you might have taken an overdose of Safexim O Tablet.

Interactions

General Instructions
Take Safexim O Tablet with or without food. Never take more than the prescribed dose.

Do not take antacids within 2 hours of taking Safexim O Tablet as they affect its absorption.

Consult your doctor immediately if any undesirable effects are seen after using this medicine.

Keep away from the reach of children and pets. Do not use it after the expiry date. Ensure that unused medicine is disposed of properly. Do not give your medicine to other people even if their condition appears to be the same as yours.
