It works by blocking the activity of dopaminergic D1 and serotonergic 5-HT1A receptors. This results in a reduction in dopaminergic and serotonergic neurotransmission. As a result, symptoms of schizophrenia (such as delusions and hallucinations), mania or aggression are reduced. It also keeps the symptoms from reappearing.
