Medical Description

Reclimet XR Forte Tablet is an anti-diabetic medicine. It contains two components, Gliclazide and Metformin. This medication is used to control blood glucose levels in patients with Type-2 diabetes. Type-2 diabetes is a disorder that occurs because the cells in our body fail to utilise insulin, a hormone to lower the blood glucose levels. Hence, even though there is insulin production in the body, the increased blood sugar level is not normalized. The dose of this medicine should be taken as per the directions given by the doctor. Side effects such as excessive lowering of blood sugar levels, diarrhoea, discomfort related to the stomach can be experienced while using this medicine. It should be avoided in pregnant women and lactating mothers. In case you experience too many side effects, consult your doctor.

Reclimet XR Forte Tablet is an anti-diabetic medicine used for lowering the blood glucose levels in Type-2 diabetic patients.

Contraindications of Reclimet Xr Forte Strip Of 15 Tablets

If you are allergic to Gliclazide, Metformin or any of the other ingredient of this medicine.
If you have any type of severe acid-base imbalance in the body (lactic acidosis, diabetic ketoacidosis).
If you are pregnant or planning pregnancy or a lactating mother.
If you have Type-1 diabetes mellitus.
If you have severe kidney or liver disease.
If you are taking an antibiotic containing active ingredient such as miconazole.
If you experience conditions such as dehydration, severe infection, a shock that can affect the function of the kidney.
If you have disorders which may cause heart failure, respiratory failure.
If you consume alcohol in excess or too often.

Other General Warnings

Talk to your doctor if
You experience low blood sugar levels (hypoglycaemia) symptoms which include extreme hunger, headache, nausea, vomiting, sleepiness, restlessness, aggression, reduced alertness and reaction time, confusion, shakiness, dizziness. These could be signs of low blood sugar. If you have any of these, immediately have sugar or sweet juice.
You have Lactic acidosis, a condition of severe acid-base imbalance in the body due to the accumulation of Lactic acid, characterised by severe dehydration, fever and vomiting.
You have a severe kidney-related disorder.
Inform your doctor that you are on Reclimet XR forte if you have been advised any CT scan or any investigation involving a contrast agent. Your doctor will stop this medicine before such a procedure and a few hours after the procedure.
You are going to undergo surgery or have a planned diagnostic procedure.
You have G6PD-deficiency, a genetic disorder where the body does not produce an important enzyme – Glucose 6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD).

How Does It Work?
This medicine works by the combined effects of Gliclazide and Metformin.
Gliclazide is an anti-diabetic medicine which works by increasing the amount of insulin released by the pancreas to lower the blood glucose.
Metformin helps in lowering glucose production in the liver, delays glucose absorption from the intestine and increases the body’s sensitivity to insulin.

Directions for Use of Reclimet Xr Forte Strip Of 15 Tablets

Reclimet XR Forte Tablet is to be taken with food.
Take this medicine as per the dose and duration advised by your doctor.
Swallow it as a whole. Do not chew, crush or break it.

Interactions with other medicines
Concomitant use of painkillers such as diclofenac, celecoxib, medicines used for high blood pressure like captopril, eprosartan and water pills such as furosemide with this medicine can increase the risk of Lactic acidosis, a condition where there is an excess accumulation of the lactic acid.
The use of Reclimet XR Forte Tablet with medicines that reduce blood glucose levels such as steroids should be avoided as it can increase the risk of low blood sugar levels.
Antibiotics, medicines to reduce tuberculosis, medicines used to reduce fits, blood thinners salicylates, antifungal medicines should be avoided while using Reclimet XR Forte as it can interfere with the effect of this medicine and increase the risk of low blood sugar.

Dosage of Reclimet Xr Forte Strip Of 15 Tablets

Overdose
Overdose of this medicine may lead to very low levels of blood sugar. It is characterised by symptoms such as sweating, palpitations, loss of consciousness and severe conditions may also lead to fits and coma. If you think that you have taken too much of this medicine, contact your doctor immediately or visit the nearest hospital.
Missed a Dose
In case you forget taking this medicine, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it’s time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dose schedule. Do not take a double or increased dose of medicine to compensate for the missed one.
