INTRODUCTION

PIOPOD 15MG contains Pioglitazone which is an anti-diabetic medicine used to treat type 2 (non-insulin dependent) diabetes mellitus. It help to control the level of sugar in your blood when you have type 2 diabetes by helping your body make better use of the insulin it produces. Diabetes mellitus is a metabolic disorder which causes high blood sugar. The hormone insulin helps in moving sugar from the blood into your cells which can be stored or used for energy production. In diabetes, your body does not produce required insulin or can’t effectively use the insulin it does make.

Pioglitazone decreases insulin resistance, resulting in increased disposal of insulin-dependent glucose and decreased glucose production in the liver. It works by increasing the body’s sensitivity to insulin, a natural substance that helps control blood sugar levels. Do not take PIOPOD 15MG if you have type 1 diabetes mellitus, diabetic ketoacidosis (high levels of acid in your blood), severe kidney or liver disease. Before taking this medicine, tell your doctor if you have or had heart, thyroid or some hormonal conditions, pregnant or breastfeeding. This medicine is not recommended for children and adolescents below 18 years of age. The common side effects are abnormal vision, respiratory infection and numbness.

PREGNANCY

DRIVING AND USING MACHINES
PIOPOD 15MG will not normally affect your ability to drive or use machines but take care if you experience abnormal vision.

LIVER
PIOPOD 15MG is not recommended in patients with severe liver disease. Consult your doctor for advice.

ALLERGY
Do not take if you are allergic (hypersensitive) to Pioglitazone or any other ingredients in this medicine.

HEART DISEASE
PIOPOD 15MG is not recommended in patients with severe heart disease. Consult your doctor for advice.

OTHERS

Tell your doctor if you have or had a condition such as,

Diabetic ketoacidosis
Bladder cancer
Blood in your urine
Macular oedema
Polycystic ovary syndrome

INTERACTIONS

Tell your doctor if you are taking or have recently taken any other medicines, including medicines obtained without a prescription or the following:

Gemfibrozil (used to lower cholesterol)
Rifampicin (used to treat tuberculosis and infections)
