INTRODUCTION
Palido-OD 3 contain paliperidone which belongs to a group of medicine called antipsychotics. It is used to treat schizophrenia in adults and in adolescents aged 15 years and older and also used to treat schizoaffective disorder in adults. Schizophrenia is a disorder characterised by symptoms such as hearing seeing or sensing thing that are not present, unusual suspiciousness, becoming withdrawn, incoherent speech, and behaviour and emotional changes. People with this disorder can also feel depressed, anxious, guilty, or tensed. In schizoaffective disorder, a person experiences combination symptoms of both schizophrenia and mood disorder symptoms such as feeling very high or sad, distracted, talking more than normal, losing interest in everyday activity, sleeping too much or too little, eating too much or too little, and getting suicidal thoughts.
Always take Palido-OD 3 exactly as your doctor has told you. This medicine is not for use in children and adolescents under 15 years for the treatment of schizophrenia and not under 18 years for the treatment of schizoaffective disorder. Do not drive or operate any machine while taking this medicine since it may cause dizziness and vision problems. Before taking this medicine tell your doctor if you have ever had kidney disease, heart disease, liver problems. Pregnant and breastfeeding women should consult their doctor before taking this medicine.

HOW Palido-OD 3 WORKS
PALIDO OD 3MG works by affecting the levels of chemical messengers (dopamine and serotonin) to improve mood, thoughts and behavior.
DIRECTIONS FOR USE
Always take PALIDO OD 3MG exactly as your doctor has told you. This medicine must be taken every morning with breakfast or without breakfast. Try to take this medicine at the same time each day. Do not alternate between taking this medicine with breakfast one day and without having breakfast the next day. It should be swallowed whole with water. Do not crush or chew the medicine.
SIDE EFFECTS OF Palido-OD 3
SERIOUS
- Blood clots in the veins
- Dementia
- Muscle stiffness, sweating or a lowered level of consciousness (Neuroleptic Malignant Syndrome)
- Prolonged or painful erection (priapism)
- Involuntary rhythmic movements of the tongue, mouth, and face
- Severe allergic reactions such as fever, swollen mouth, face, lip or tongue, shortness of breath, itching, skin rash and sometimes drop in blood pressure
COMMON
- Parkinsonism
- Restlessness
- Feeling sleepy or less alert
- Headache
- Infection of the chest (bronchitis)
- Urinary tract infection
- Weight gain, increased appetite, weight loss, decreased appetite
- Mania, irritability, depression, anxiety
- Dystonia, dyskinesia
- Dizziness
- Tremor
- Blurry vision
- Slow or rapid heart rate
- Low blood pressure upon standing, high blood pressure
- Abdominal pain, abdominal discomfort
- Dry mouth, toothache
- Itching, rash
- Bone or muscle ache, back pain, joint pain
- Loss of menstrual periods
- Fever, weakness, fatigue (tiredness)
RARE
- Eye infection
- Fungal infection of the nails
- Infection of the skin
- Low numbers of a certain type of white blood cell, increase in eosinophils (a type of white blood cell) in your blood
- Sugar in the urine
- Inappropriate secretion of a hormone
- Uncontrolled diabetes
- Excessive intake of water, low blood sugar, excessive drinking of water, increased cholesterol in your blood
HOW TO MANAGE SIDE EFFECTS
Headache:
Apply hot or cold-water bag on your head. Take rest in a quiet and dark room. Drink tea or coffee.
Dizziness:
Get up and move around to feel awake, take small naps to edge off the sleepiness. Give your eyes a break to avoid fatigue and eat a healthy food to boost energy.
Abdominal pain:
Try to rest and relax. Eat and drink slowly or have smaller and frequent meals. Applying heat pad or covered hot water bottle on your stomach may also help. If still pain persists, speak to your doctor.
Nausea and vomiting:
Try taking this medicine with, or just after, a meal or snack and stick to simple meals and do not eat rich or spicy food.
Constipation:
Take fibre rich foods such as fresh fruit, vegetables and cereals, and drink plenty of water. Exercise more regularly.
Diarrhoea:
Drink lot of fluid such as water or squash, to avoid dehydration. Do not take any other medicines without talking to a doctor.
WARNING & PRECAUTIONS
PREGNANCY
Palido-OD 3 is not recommended for use in pregnant women unless necessary. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor.
BREASTFEEDING
Palido-OD 3 is not recommended for use in breastfeeding women unless necessary. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor.
DRIVING AND USING MACHINES
Do not drive or operate any machine while taking this medicine since it may cause dizziness and vision problems.
ALCOHOL
Consumption of alcohol is not recommended during treatment with Palido-OD 3.
KIDNEY
Palido-OD 3 should be used with caution in patients suffering from active kidney diseases. Consult your doctor for advice.
LIVER
PALIDO OD 3MG should be used with caution in patients suffering from liver function impairment or active liver diseases. Consult your doctor for advice.
ALLERGY
Do not take Palido-OD 3 if you are allergic (hypersensitive) to paliperidone or any other ingredients in this medicine.
HEART DISEASE
Palido-OD 3 should be used with caution in patients suffering from active heart diseases. Consult your doctor for advice.
OTHERS
Tell your doctor if you have or had a condition such as,
- Parkinson’s disease
- High temperature and muscle stiffness (Neuroleptic Malignant Syndrome)
- Abnormal movements of the tongue or face (Tardive dyskinesia)
- Low levels of white blood cells in the past
- Diabetic or prone to diabetes
- Breast cancer or a tumour in the pituitary gland in your brain
- Low blood pressure when you stand up or sit up suddenly
- Epilepsy
- Prolonged and/or painful erection
- Problems with controlling core body temperature or overheating
- An abnormally high level of the hormone prolactin in your blood or have a possible prolactin-dependent tumour
- Family history of blood clots
INTERACTIONS Palido-OD 3
Talk to your doctor if you are taking,
- Heart medicines (used to control heart rhythm)
- Some other types of medicines such as antihistamines, antimalarials, or other antipsychotics
- Medicines for lower blood pressure
- Levodopa (used to treat parkinson’s disease and restless legs syndrome)
- Metoclopramide
- Valproate
- Oral risperidone
- Psychostimulants such as methylphenidate (increase the activity of the central nervous system)
