Oxyspas 2.5 Tablet (Oxybutynin 2.5mg)

INTRODUCTION

OXYSPAS 2.5MG contains Oxybutynin which belongs to two groups of medicines called anticholinergics and antispasmodics. It works by relaxing the muscles of bladder and stops sudden muscle contractions (spasms). This helps control the release of water (urine). It is used to treat frequent and severe urinary urgency or loss of control in passing urine (urge incontinence).

Always take this medicine as directed by physician. Your doctor will decide the dose and duration of therapy depending upon your age, weight and condition. Swallow the medicine with a glass of water. It is not recommended for the use in children and adolescents below 5 years of age, consult your doctor before giving this medicine. Do not take OXYSPAS 2.5MG if you have increased pressure in the eye (glaucoma). It is not recommended for the use in pregnant or breastfeeding women. Consult your doctor before taking this medicine. Tell your doctor if you are taking or taken or might take any other medicines. The most common side effects include headache, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, dry skin, dry eyes and dry mouth.

HOW OXYSPAS 2.5MG WORKS

DIRECTIONS FOR USE

Always take OXYSPAS 2.5MG exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Swallow the medicine whole with plenty of water. If you take more this medicine than you should, talk to your doctor.

SIDE EFFECTS OF OXYSPAS 2.5MG

SERIOUS
Allergic reactions may include rash, swelling of the lips, face, throat or tongue, swallowing or breathing problems
Increased pressure in the eyes (possible onset of glaucoma) may include blurred vision, loss of vision or pain in the eye
Feel reduced sweating, leading to overheating in hot environments (heat stroke)
COMMON
Headache
Constipation
Dry mouth
Nausea, dizziness, vomiting
Feeling drowsy or sleepy (somnolence)
Blurred vision
Dry skin
Diarrhoea
Confusion
Dry eyes
Feeling of incomplete emptying of your bladder
Flushing of the face (especially in children)

HOW TO MANAGE SIDE EFFECTS

Dry skin:

Avoid bath in hot water because hot water can irritate the skin. Moisturizers can be used regular basis to soothe and hydrate the affected area.

Nausea and vomiting:

Keep try taking this medicine with, or just after, a meal or snack and stick to simple meals and do not eat rich or spicy food.

Diarrhea:

Drink lot of fluid, such as water or squash, to avoid dehydration. Do not take any other medicine without consulting your doctor.

WARNING & PRECAUTIONS

PREGNANCY
OXYSPAS 2.5MG is not recommended for use in pregnant women unless necessary. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor.

BREASTFEEDING
OXYSPAS 2.5MG is not recommended for use in breastfeeding women unless necessary. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor.

DRIVING AND USING MACHINES
Do not drive or operate any machinery while taking this medicine, it may make you feel drowsy and blurred vision.

ALCOHOL
Consumption of alcohol is not recommended during treatment with OXYSPAS 2.5MG.

KIDNEY
OXYSPAS 2.5MG should be taken with caution in patients with severe kidney disease. Consult your doctor for advice.

LIVER
OXYSPAS 2.5MG should be taken with caution in patients with severe liver disease. Consult your doctor for advice.

ALLERGY
Do not take if you are allergic to this medicine.

HEART DISEASE
If you have any heart related problems, consult your doctor for advice before taking this medicine.

OTHERS

Do not take OXYSPAS 2.5MG if you:

Have a rare condition called “Myasthenia gravis” that makes the muscles in the body become weak and tire easily
Have increased pressure in the eye (glaucoma)
Suffer from your gut (stomach or intestine) is blocked
Have a severe form of a condition known as ulcerative colitis (inflammatory disease of the large intestine)
Have an enlarged prostate gland
Have gastro-intestinal disorders

INTERACTIONS

Talk to your doctor if you are taking:

Atropine, compounds related to atropine (used for treatment of cramps)
Other anticholinergic medicines (used for treatment in stomach disorders such as irritable bowel syndrome)
Prochlorperazine, chlorpromazine or other phenothiazines, clozapine or other antipsychotics (medicines used to treat psychosis)
Haloperidol, beneridol or other butyrophenones (Medicines used to treat certain mental illness)
Dipyridamole (used to treat blood clotting problems)
Ketoconazole, itraconazole or fluconazole (used for the treatment of fungal infections)
Erythromycin or other macrolide antibiotics (used to treat bacterial infections)
Quinidine (used to treat heart problems)
