Description

Foracort-200 Rotacaps is a combination of Budesonide and Formoterol. It is used in the treatment of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD is a group of lung conditions that cause blockage of airflow leading to breathing-related problems) and asthma (narrowing of the airways with excessive mucous production). It helps relieve symptoms such as wheezing, shortness of breath, chest tightness, breathing difficulty, coughing, etc.

Foracort-200 Rotacaps prevents the release of certain chemicals that cause swelling and narrowing of the airways. Hence, it relaxes and widens the airways leading to the lungs and helps to ease breathing. This medicine is used only for the maintenance treatment of asthma and COPD and is not useful for treating an acute attack.

Foracort-200 Rotacaps causes side effects like nausea, vomiting, hoarseness of voice, fungal infections in the mouth, cough, headache, sore throat, etc. Consult your doctor if these side effects persist or worsen.

Foracort-200 Rotacaps should be used as instructed by your doctor. The dose and duration of treatment will be decided by your doctor depending on your clinical condition. Take this medicine every day at the same time for better results. Do not stop taking this medicine on your own, as it may cause your symptoms to become worse.

Foracort-200 Rotacaps may not be suitable for all. It is not recommended for use in children younger than 12 years of age as there are no safety and efficacy data available. Inform your doctor if you have seizures (fits), liver, or heart problems. Consult your doctor if you are pregnant or are breastfeeding.

When not to use?

Allergy
Avoid using Foracort-200 Rotacaps if you are allergic to it. Seek immediate medical attention if you notice any symptoms such as skin rash, itching/swelling (especially of the face/tongue/throat), severe dizziness, breathing difficulty, etc.
Status asthmaticus
Status asthmaticus is a severe form of asthma that is sudden and does not respond to standard treatments. These attacks can last for several minutes or even hours. Foracort-200 Rotacaps is not recommended for use if you have status asthmaticus as it is not effective in treating this condition.

Pregnancy

Breast-feeding

General warnings

Hyperadrenocorticism
Hyperadrenocorticism is a condition that occurs due to high levels of cortisol (a chemical substance that helps your body respond to stress, regulate blood sugar, and fight infections) in the body. High doses of Foracort-200 Rotacaps should be used with caution as it may cause or worsen hyperadrenocorticism, in rare cases.
Hypokalaemia
Foracort-200 Rotacaps may cause a decrease in blood potassium levels and lead to heart-related complications. Hence this medicine should be used with caution if you have hypokalaemia.
Infections
Foracort-200 Rotacaps may decrease the immune response of the body and increase the risk of infections of the mouth, lungs, etc.
Decreased bone density
Long-term use of Foracort-200 Rotacaps may cause a decrease in bone density (amount of bone minerals in the bone tissue). Hence, it should be used with caution if you have osteoporosis (a bone condition that causes loss of bone density leading to weak and brittle bones).
Use in children
Foracort-200 Rotacaps is not recommended for use in children less than 12 years of age as the safety and efficacy data are not clinically established.

Dosage

Missed Dose
If you miss a dose of Foracort-200 Rotacaps, take the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it is time for your next dose, skip the missed dose. Do not double your dose to make up for the missed dose.
Overdose
Seek emergency medical treatment in case of an overdose of Foracort-200 Rotacaps.

General Instructions

Use Foracort-200 Rotacaps as prescribed by your doctor. Follow all the instructions given in the information leaflet/package insert.

Do not use in larger or smaller amounts than prescribed. Do not stop the use of Foracort-200 Rotacaps without consulting your doctor.

Consult your doctor if you experience undesirable effects that persist or worsen.

Rinse your mouth with water after each use to prevent infections in the mouth and throat.

Carry your rescue inhaler wherever you go. Foracort-200 Rotacaps is not effective in treating an asthma attack that has already started. Always use a rescue inhaler to treat such symptoms.

Consult your doctor to understand which medications to be used on daily basis and which you should use if you have sudden breathing problems (asthma attacks).
