Floxip 250 Tablet (Ciprofloxacin 250mg)

Description

Floxip 250 MG Tablet is an antibiotic medicine that contains ciprofloxacin. It is used for the treatment of bacterial infections that affect your skin, joints, lungs, or urinary tract. It is effective against a large number of bacteria. It kills or prevents the growth of bacteria that causes infection. It should be used to treat bacterial infections only. It is not effective against infections caused by viruses.

Floxip 250 MG Tablet shows common side effects like diarrhoea, stomach pain, headache, weakness, nausea, and vomiting. Floxip 250 MG Tablet can cause muscle damage, usually in your ankle. Once an antibiotic is started, it is always recommended to finish the entire course of treatment to prevent bacterial resistance.

Floxip 250 MG Tablet can be taken with or without food. For the ease of remembering, take Floxip 250 MG Tablet around the same time every day. Take Floxip 250 MG Tablet one-two hours before or after taking antacids as they increase the time taken by this medicine to show its effect. Take Floxip 250 MG Tablet two hours before/after taking dairy products as they can affect its absorption and decrease its beneficial effects.

Floxip 250 MG Tablet should be avoided during pregnancy due to the risk of adverse effects on developing joints of the foetus. Floxip 250 MG Tablet is not known to be harmful but it can pass into breast milk in small amounts, so if you are breastfeeding it is advised to consult your doctor before using it. Avoid Floxip 250 MG Tablet if you have kidney disease or tendon issues as it can worsen your condition.

Community acquired pneumonia
Community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) refers to pneumonia (lung infection) wherein one gets infected in a community setting. CAP can be bacterial or viral. Floxip 250 MG Tablet is used to treat community-acquired pneumonia caused by bacteria like Mycoplasma pneumonia, Streptococcus pneumonia etc.
Bronchitis
Bronchitis is the swelling and irritation of the airways that regulates air passage in your lungs. Floxip 250 MG Tablet is used to treat bronchitis caused by bacteria.
Cystitis
Cystitis is the swelling of the urinary bladder usually caused by a bacterial infection. Floxip 250 MG Tablet is used to treat cystitis caused by bacteria like E.coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa.
Prostatitis
Prostatitis is the swelling of the prostate gland located under the bladder in men. This gland produces the fluid semen, that carries sperm. When not to use?

Allergy
Avoid taking Floxip 250 MG Tablet if you are previously allergic to it. Serious allergic reactions to this medicine are rare. Seek immediate medical attention if you notice any symptoms like skin rash, itching/swelling (especially of the face/tongue/throat), severe dizziness, breathing difficulties, etc.
Tendonitis or tendon rupture
Floxip 250 MG Tablet can cause muscle damage especially in old age. Do not use Floxip 250 MG Tablet if you have tendonitis (swelling of fibres that attach bone with muscles) or tendon rupture (a partial or complete tear of the tendon- the tissue that connects muscle to bone).
Myasthenia gravis
Myasthenia gravis is a skeletal muscle condition characterized by severe weakness of any of the muscles under your voluntary control, including the arms and legs. Floxip 250 MG Tablet should be avoided if you have such a problem because it may worsen your condition.

Warnings

Warnings for special population
Pregnancy
Floxip 250 MG Tablet is not recommended during pregnancy due to the risk of adverse effects on developing joints of your foetus. Take Floxip 250 MG Tablet only upon your doctor’s recommendation.
Breast-feeding
Using Floxip 250 MG Tablet is not known to be harmful in breastfeeding. It passes into breast milk in small amounts. However, if you are breastfeeding, consult your doctor before taking this medicine. The baby should be observed for symptoms of yeast infection like diarrhoea, thick white coating on the tongue and diaper rash.

General warnings

Muscle damage
Floxip 250 MG Tablet can cause muscle damage usually on the tendons that surround your ankles. Inform your doctor if you feel pain, numbness, or tingling sensations in your muscles.
Antibiotic resistance
Finish your entire course of treatment with Floxip 250 MG Tablet, even if the condition gets better, to avoid antibiotic resistance (a condition where the bacteria become resistant to antibiotics). If you still feel unwell after completing your antibiotic course, consult your doctor.
Diarrhoea
Floxip 250 MG Tablet can cause diarrhoea because it may also kill the helpful bacteria in your stomach or intestine. Get emergency medical help if you experience severe diarrhoea that is watery or bloody. Consult your pharmacist/doctor before taking anti-diarrhoeal medication.
Driving or operating machinery
Floxip 250 MG Tablet may cause dizziness, confusion, or disorientation. Hence, do not perform activities such as driving vehicles or operating machines if you experience any of these symptoms.
Kidney diseases
Use Floxip 250 MG Tablet with extreme caution if you have kidney problems due to the risk of kidney damage. Your doctor may adjust the dose of this medicine based on your condition.
Other medicines
Inform the doctor about the use of all your other medications before starting treatment with Floxip 250 MG Tablet. Avoid using Tizanidine (a muscle relaxant medicine) and caffeine-containing products while taking Floxip 250 MG Tablet as they may interact with this medicine.
Antacids
If you are taking an antacid containing aluminium and magnesium salts for indigestion, it can increase the time it takes for Floxip 250 MG Tablet to show its effects. It is recommended to take this antibiotic at least one hour before or two hours after taking antacids.

Dosage

Missed Dose
Try not to skip a dose of Floxip 250 MG Tablet. And if a dose is skipped, do not add it up to the next dose.
Overdose
Never take more than the prescribed dose. Seek emergency medical attention if you suspect that you might have taken an overdose of Floxip 250 MG Tablet.

General Instructions

Floxip 250 MG Tablet uses is proven to be highly effective in treating bacterial infections.

Take Floxip 250 MG Tablet with or without food as instructed by your doctor. Never take more than the prescribed dose. Take this Floxip 250 MG Tablet at around the same time daily.

Do not chew or crush the tablet in your mouth. Do not give your medicine to other people even if their condition appears to be the same as yours.

Antacids can increase the time takes for Floxip 250 MG Tablet to act, so it is recommended to take this antibiotic at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after taking antacids.

Take Floxip 250 MG Tablet 2 hours before any dairy products as they can affect its absorption.
