Ethide Tablet (Ethionamide 250mg)

ETHIDE 250MG TABLET belongs to the group of medicines called antibiotic drugs primarily used to treat tuberculosis. Tuberculosis is an infectious disease that mainly affects the lungs. ETHIDE 250 MG TABLET should not be used alone and must be given in combination with other tuberculosis medications. ETHIDE 250MG TABLET does not work against infections caused by the virus, including cold and flu.

ETHIDE 250MG TABLET consists of medicine called ‘Ethionamide’ that works by inhibiting bacteria’s growth that causes tuberculosis (Mycobacterium tuberculosis).

Take ETHIDE 250MG TABLET with or without food or as advised by your doctor. Swallow ETHIDE 250MG TABLET as a whole; do not crush or chew the tablet. If you experience stomach upset, take this medication with food. Take ETHIDE 250MG TABLET daily at the same time to ensure better efficacy. The dose and duration of ETHIDE 250MG TABLET can vary depending upon your condition and severity of the infection. In some cases, you may experience certain common side-effects such as nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, diarrhoea, increased saliva, strange metallic taste in the mouth, or sores in the mouth. Most of these side-effects do not require medical attention and will resolve gradually over time. However, you are advised to talk to your doctor if you experience these side-effects persistently.

Do not stop taking ETHIDE 250 MG TABLET despite symptomatic relief. Treat your condition effectually, continue taking ETHIDE 250MG TABLET for as long as it has been prescribed for you. Take ETHIDE 250 MG TABLET with caution if you have diabetes. Consult your doctor before taking ETHIDE 250 MG TABLET if you are pregnant. Avoid breastfeeding while taking ETHIDE 250MG TABLET as it passes into breast milk. ETHIDE 250 MG TABLET may rarely cause dizziness, and vision problems, so drive with caution if you experience these signs. Avoid consuming alcohol along with ETHIDE 250MG TABLET as it might lead to liver problems or mental/mood changes. Do not take ETHIDE 250 MG TABLET if you have severe liver disease. Inform your doctor immediately if you experience/notice confusion, seizure, dark urine, clay-coloured stools after taking ETHIDE 250MG TABLET.

Tuberculosis (TB)

ETHIDE 250 MG TABLET contains ‘Ethionamide’ that works by inactivating a bacterial genetic material that allows TB bacteria (Mycobacterium tuberculosis) to make a copy of its protein for further growth inside the host cell (human). Ethionamide indicated in the treatment of active tuberculosis in patients with Mycobacterium tuberculosis infection resistant to rifampin or isoniazid.

Store in a cool and dry place away from sunlight

Like all medicines, ETHIDE 250MG TABLET can also cause side-effects, although not everybody experiences them. Nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, stomach pain, increased salivation, metallic taste in your mouth, headache, dizziness, drowsiness are the common side-effects of ETHIDE 250MG TABLET. Please consult your doctor if you experience any of these side-effects persistently.
