Cepodem XP 325 tablet is an antibiotic and is used to treat various bacterial infections of the throat/neck, lungs, ear, urinary tract and skin. It is a combination medicine containing cefpodoxime and clavulanic acid. Cefpodoxime stops the growth of bacteria by inhibiting cell wall formation, while clavulanic acid enhances the effect of cefpodoxime by inhibiting the release of bacterial enzymes. You should take Cepodem XP 325 tablet as prescribed by your doctor. Do not stop taking this medicine, even if you start feeling better, it may result in treatment failure and recurrence of the infection. The common side effects of the Cepodem XP 325 tablet is diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting and gas. If you feel the side effects persist or the condition worsens, you should contact your doctor immediately. Before using Cepodem XP 325 tablet, inform the doctor if you are pregnant, planning a pregnancy or breastfeeding and about your detailed medical history.

Contraindications of Cepodem Xp 325mg Tablet

If you have an allergy to Cefpodoxime, Clavulanic acid or any of the ingredients of Cepodem XP 325 tablet.
If you are allergic to the cephalosporin class of antibiotics.
If you have an infection that is caused by the bacteria Clostridium difficile.
If you have liver or kidney problems.
If you are suffering from fits.

Mode of Action of Cepodem Xp 325mg Tablet

How Does It Work?
Cefpodoxime controls the growth of bacteria and kills them by inhibiting the synthesis of the bacterial cell wall. However, the bacteria make an enzyme (beta-lactamases) that can destroy Cefpodoxime.
Clavulanic acid inactivates this enzyme and hence helps Cefpodoxime to function optimally.

Directions for Use of Cepodem Xp 325mg Tablet

Cepodem XP 325 tablet should be taken as directed by your doctor. Swallow it as a whole with a glass of water. Take it at a fixed time for optimal results. Do not consume it more than that prescribed by your doctor.

Interactions of Cepodem Xp 325mg Tablet

Interactions with other medicines
Concomitant use of acid-lowering drugs like antacids, ranitidine, cimetidine with Cepodem XP 325 tablet decrease the effect of this medicine.
Concomitant use of Probenecid with Cepodem XP 325 tablet increases the effect of this medicine.
When medicines known to cause harm to the kidney such as amphotericin-B, vancomycin, amikacin are administered along with Cepodem XP 325 tablet may increase the risk of kidney disease.
Discuss with your doctor about any other medicines, herbal preparations and supplements you are taking currently to avoid any possible interactions.

Store Cepodem XP 325 tablets in a cool and dry place.

Dosage of Cepodem Xp 325mg Tablet

Overdose
Symptoms of an overdose include nausea, vomiting and diarrhoea.
If you think you have taken too much of Cepodem XP 325 tablet, contact your doctor immediately or visit the nearest hospital.
Missed a Dose
It is advisable not to miss any dose of antibiotics as it can result in the failure of therapy.
If you have missed any dose of Cepodem XP 325 tablet, take it as soon as you remember.
If it’s time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule.
Do not take a double dose of this medicine to compensate for the missed one.
