Biselect 2.5 Tablet (Bisoprolol 2.5mg)

INTRODUCTION

BISELECT 2.5MG contains Bisoprolol which belongs to group of medicines called beta-blockers. It is used alone to treat high blood pressure and angina pectoris (chest pain caused by blockages in the arteries that supply the heart muscle). This medicine used in combination to treat heart failure. It works by affecting the body’s response to some nerve impulses in the heart and slows down the heart rate and makes the heart more efficient at pumping blood around the body. It is a cardioselective β blocker lacking intrinsic sympathomimetic activity, suitable for angina, hypertension and CHF.

Before taking this medicine, tell your doctor know if you have any liver problems, slow heart rate, severe circulation problems, severe heart failure or low blood pressure. It is not recommended for use in children. The ability to drive or operate machinery may get affected while taking this medicine. Consult your doctor for advice. The most common side effects are tiredness, feeling weak, dizziness, headache, coldness or numbness in hands or feet and low blood pressure.

Treats high blood pressure and angina pectoris (pain in the chest caused by blockages in the arteries leading to the heart)

HOW BISELECT 2.5MG WORKS

BISELECT 2.5MG by decreasing contractility and the need for oxygen through competitive inhibition of β1-adrenergic receptors, decreases the cardiac workload. It also reduces the renin output in the kidneys, which normally increases blood pressure.

DIRECTIONS FOR USE

Take this medicine according to the dose and frequency as advised by your doctor. Do not chew, crush or break the medicine. It may be taken with or without food.

HOW TO MANAGE SIDE EFFECTS

Diarrhoea:

Drink plenty of fluids to avoid dehydration. ORS should be used to prevent dehydration.

Nausea:

Stick to simple normal meals and do not eat rich or spicy foods.

Constipation:

Eat high rich fiber foods, fruits, vegetables and whole grains.

Dizziness:

Get up and move around to feel awake, take small naps to edge off the sleepiness. Give your eyes a break to avoid fatigue and eat a healthy food to boost energy.

Vomiting:

Drink clear or ice-cold drinks. Eat light, bland foods and avoid fried, greasy, or sweet foods

OTHERS

Tell your doctor if you had or have a condition such as:

Severe asthma or chronic lung disease
Severe blood circulation problem in limbs (Raynaud’s syndrome)
Untreated phaeochromocytoma
Metabolic acidosis
Very low blood pressure
Diabetes
Strict fasting (fasting from solid food)
History of a scaly skin rash (psoriasis)
Thyroid disorder

INTERACTIONS

Inform your doctor if you are taking or have recently taken any other medicines, including medicines obtained without a prescription or the following:

Medicines used for control blood pressure and heart problems (e.g amiodarone, amlodipine, clonidine, digitalis glycosides, diltiazem, disopyramide, felodipine, flecainide, lidocaine, methyldopa, moxonidine, phenytoin, propafenone, quinidine, rilmenidine, verapamil)
Medicines used to treat depression (e.g. imipramine, amitriptyline, moclobemide)
Medicines to treat any mental illness
Medicines used to treat epilepsy (e.g. phenobarbital)
Pain killers (acetyl salicylic acid, diclofenac, indomethacin, ibuprofen, naproxen)
Medicines for asthma or blocked nose
Medicines used for eye disorders
Adrenaline, dobutamine, noradrenaline
Mefloquine
Rifampicin (used to treat infections)
Medicines used to treat severe headaches or migraines (ergotamine derivatives)
