INTRODUCTION
Arip MT 20 contains Aripiprazole which belongs to the group of medicines called Anti-psychotic drugs. It is used to treat schizophrenia in both adults and in adolescents (aged between 13-17 years). Schizophrenia is a mental disorder which is characterized by seeing or hearing things which are not present. ARIP MT 20MG can also be given to children (aged between 6-18 years) to treat Tourette’s disorder which is characterized by uncontrollable repetitive body movements or abnormal sounds (tics).
Aripiprazole helps to improve your thinking abilities and to controls your mood and emotions. It acts by regulating the release and uptake of certain chemical messengers (dopamine and serotonin) in the brain that affects your thoughts, mood, and mental state. It also helps in the control of uncontrollable abnormal body movements (tics) in children. While taking ARIP MT 20MG, do not exercise excessively and avoid exposing yourself to hot climate. Drink plenty of water to avoid dehydration.
It may take a few weeks for Arip MT 20 to subside the symptoms of your illness, and so do not skip any dose or stop taking ARIP MT 20MG without consulting your doctor. Sudden withdrawal of therapy may cause the symptoms to reoccur.
ARIP MT 20MG should be used with caution in patients having diabetes, heart problems, fits or blood clots. It is strictly not recommended for use in elderly patients having dementia-related psychosis (a disorder that affects memory, thinking and social abilities).
Avoid consumption of alcohol while taking ARIP MT 20MG, as it could make you feel more dizzy or drowsy. Before taking ARIP MT 20MG, inform your doctor if you are pregnant, or planning to become pregnant or breastfeeding.
Arip MT 20 can increase your blood sugar or cholesterol levels, therefore your doctor would periodically monitor your blood glucose and cholesterol levels as a precaution. Patients taking ARIP MT 20MG must inform their doctor if they develop any unusual mood changes, increased sex drive, excessive gambling, suicidal thoughts, or worsening depression. The most common side effects of taking ARIP MT 20MG are excessive saliva secretion, uncontrollable muscle movements, dizziness, sleepiness or headache. Consult your doctor if any of the side effect bothers you.

HOW ARIP MT 20MG WORKS
ARIP MT 20MG is an atypical antipsychotic. DIRECTIONS FOR USE
Take ARIP MT 20MG as advised by your physician. It can be taken with or without meals. Swallow the medicine with a glass of water. Do not crush or chew the medicine. Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration of therapy for you depending upon your age, body weight and mental state. Do not stop taking ARIP MT 20MG without consulting your doctor, even if you feel better after few days of therapy.
SIDE EFFECTS OF Arip MT 20
COMMON
- Difficulty in sleeping, anxiety, restlessness
- Uncontrollable muscle twitching, jerking or writhing movements
- Trembling (feeling shaky)
- Headache, tiredness, sleepiness, dizziness
- Blurred vision
- Constipation, indigestion
- Nausea, vomiting, excessive saliva secretion
UNCOMMON
- Sign of increased prolactin levels in blood (such as breast milk production, delay in puberty)
- Restless legs (urge to move your legs more frequently)
- Eye problems (double vision or sensitivity to light)
- Fast heartbeat
RARE
Stop taking ARIP MT 20MG and consult your doctor if you experience any of the following side effects such as:
- Excessive thirst, urination or hunger, stomach problems with fruity odour (signs of diabetes)
- Thoughts of harming or killing yourself, worsening depression
- Changes in behavior (such as developing urges or cravings to behave unusually, addictive gambling, excessive eating or spending and abnormal high sex drive)
- Signs of Neuroleptic Malignant Syndrome (a neurological emergency disorder causing fever, muscle stiffness or pains, vomiting, sweating, dark urine and decrease in consciousness)
- Tardive dyskinesia (uncontrollable movements of the mouth, tongue, and the limbs)
- Feeling dizzy and faint while standing up (orthostatic hypotension)
- Weight gain
- Severe allergic reactions (such as severe itching with raised bumps, swelling of the face, lips, tongue and/or throat, which may cause difficulty in swallowing)
- Irregular heartbeat, seizure (fits)
HOW TO MANAGE SIDE EFFECTS
Nausea and Vomiting:
Take Arip MT 20 with or just after a meal or a snack. Stick to simple meals. Avoid eating rich or spicy food. Consult your doctor if you continue to feel nauseating for a prolonged period.
Diarrhea:
Hydrate yourself by drinking plenty of fluids, such as water or fruit juices. Consuming ORS can also be beneficial. Do not take any anti-diarrheal medicines to treat diarrhea on your own. Consult your doctor if your diarrhea persists for a prolonged period.
Headache:
Rest and relax. Keep yourself hydrated by drinking plenty of fluids such as water or electrolytes. Applying a pain-relieving balm on your forehead can be beneficial. Do not consume excessive alcohol, as it could aggravate your headache. Consult your doctor if your headache worsens.
Dizziness:
Try to rest and relax. Get enough sleep. Avoid driving or operating any tools or machines completely while you are feeling dizzy. Do not consume excessive alcohol, as it could aggravate your dizziness. Consult your doctor if your dizziness worsens.
WARNING & PRECAUTIONS
PREGNANCY
ARIP MT 20MG should be used in pregnant women only if it is considered necessary by the physician. Therefore, consult your doctor before taking it.
BREASTFEEDING
ARIP MT 20MG should be used in breastfeeding women only if it is considered necessary by the physician. Your doctor will evaluate the risks and benefits of the therapy for you and decide whether ARIP MT 20MG should be continued or not depending upon your condition. Therefore, consult your doctor before taking it.
DRIVING AND USING MACHINES
Do not drive or operate any heavy tools or machines if you experience dizziness or blurred vision after taking ARIP MT 20MG.
ALCOHOL
Avoid consumption of alcohol while taking ARIP MT 20MG as it could make you feel more dizzy or drowsy.
ALLERGY
Do not take ARIP MT 20MG if you are allergic to Aripiprazole.
HEART DISEASE
ARIP MT 20MG should be used with caution in patients having heart problems (such as history of myocardial infarction or stroke, or abnormal blood pressure). Consult your doctor before taking it.
OTHERS
Before taking ARIP MT 20MG, inform your doctor if you:
- Have diabetes or family history of diabetes
- Have involuntary, irregular muscle movements, especially in the face
- Have muscle stiffness or inflexibility with high fever, sweating, altered mental status, or very rapid or irregular heartbeat
- Have fits (seizures)
- Have blood clots, or family history of blood clots
- Have difficult in swallowing
- Have previous experience of excessive gambling
- Have low WBC count
Use in pediatrics:
ARIP MT 20MG should be used in children and adolescents (aged 13 years or older) only if prescribed by the physician. It is generally not recommended for use in children (aged below 6 years) due to lack of safety data. Therefore, consult your doctor before taking it.
Use in geriatrics:
ARIP MT 20MG should be used with caution in elderly patients (65 years and above). It is strictly not recommended for use in elders having dementia-related psychosis. Consult your doctor before taking it.
INTERACTIONS
A. Drug-Drug Interaction:
Before taking ARIP MT 20MG, inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following:
- Medicines used to treat abnormal heart rhythm (Ex. quinidine, amiodarone, flecainide)
- Medicines used to treat depression (Ex. fluoxetine, paroxetine, venlafaxine, St. John’s Wort, amitriptyline, clomipramine)
- Tryptophan (an amino acid used to maintain brain health)
- Medicines used to treat fungal infections (Ex. ketoconazole, itraconazole)
- Medicines used to treat HIV infection (Ex. efavirenz, nevirapine, indinavir, ritonavir)
- Medicines used to treat epilepsy (Ex. carbamazepine, phenytoin)
- Medicines used to treat tuberculosis (Ex. rifabutin, rifampicin)
- Medicines used to treat high blood pressure (Ex. captopril, enalapril, atenolol, propranolol, etc.)
- Medicines used to reduce anxiety and to induce sleep (Ex. alprazolam, midazolam, lorazepam)
- Medicines used for pain relief (Ex. tramadol and pethidine)
- Medicines used to treat migraine headache (Ex. sumatriptan and zolmitriptan)
Overdosage:
If you or anyone else accidentally took more ARIP MT 20MG, consult your doctor immediately or visit the nearby hospital. Symptoms of overdose might include abnormal heart rate, agitation, problems with speech, unusual movements (especially face or tongue), sudden confusion, fits, fever, abnormal breathing, sweating, muscle stiffness, high or low blood pressure or drowsiness.
