INTRODUCTION
AMARYL 2MG contains Glimepiride which belongs to the group of medicines called Anti-diabetic agents. It is used to treat type 2 diabetes mellitus when diet, physical exercise and weight reduction alone have not been able to control blood sugar levels. Type 2 diabetes mellitus is a chronic health condition where the body does not produce enough insulin to control the levels of blood sugar. Symptoms include increased thirst and hunger, frequent urination, weight loss, fatigue, blurred vision, and slow-healing sores.
Glimepiride lowers blood sugar by causing the pancreas to produce increased insulin (a natural substance that is needed to break down sugar in the body) and helping the body use insulin efficiently. This will only help lower blood sugar in people whose bodies produce insulin naturally. Along with this treatment, your doctor might ask you to make certain lifestyle changes such as following a healthy diet, physical exercise and avoiding alcohol. Your doctor may also want you to take certain blood tests, urine, and liver tests to understand your existing condition.
Avoid smoking and consumption of alcohol during treatment with AMARYL 2MG. Before taking AMARYL 2MG, inform your doctor if you are recovering from an injury, operation, infections with fever or stress. AMARYL 2MG is not recommended for use in patients having severe kidney and liver disease, insulin dependent diabetes (type 1), diabetic coma and diabetic ketoacidosis. AMARYL 2MG is generally not recommended for use in pregnancy and breastfeeding. AMARYL 2MG is also not recommended for use in children. Consult your doctor before taking. The most common side effects of taking AMARYL 2MG are low blood sugar (hypoglycemia), dizziness, weakness, headache, nausea, allergic skin reactions (reddening of the skin, rash, and itching), vomiting and diarrhea.
